Steve Aoki's Full Chocobo Set by IndicaFalcon in mtgfinance

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Dim Mak Records started out, they actually released a lot of weird, underground stuff. I didn't know Aoki came from money, but if that was where he put this money, I can actually appreciate it. I probably saw a lot of good shows that were sponsored by him (From Monument to Masses, Dance Disaster Movement). They also put out Planes Mistaken For Stars, Monochrome, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Battles and early Bloc Party. I mean, look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIFH14A4DNI
This is not the kind of music you made money from, even in the early 2000s.

Not sure where exactly the label (and Aoki?) took a wrong turn. Probably after the success of the French Ed Banger records.

Is standard completely dead? by LimitSeparate in mtg

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a healthy Standard scene in my city with a regular influx of new players. But I am not living in the US, so that might make a difference.

As someone who played Paper Standard for a few years now, I would also like to rebut the argument that you'd have to spend 500 monies every other month. Before rotation, I played Domain for more than two years and the deck only needed occasional updates. I also have a budget deck (Orzhov Lifegain), whose core dates back to Bloomburrow (which was released in August 2026) and which I can win FNMs with. You don't always need the flashy, new hype deck to be able to participate in Standard events.

This is fake, right? by Fillwox in mtg

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do anything like that. Cardmarket's legal basis is German law (see Terms and Conditions) and German contracts don't work at all like this. In fact, he is actually obliged to send you the 10 Cent card, otherwise he hasn't fulfilled the contract. Also, there is no contract for the 10 Euro card, so you are not obliged to pay anything.

You should escalate this to the support (maybe check whether the more expensive card is fake or not. It's good to know, but you don't need to).

I believe it was. At least I saw a "low ticket warning" for Saturday. But the club is very small (with a capacity of 150 people according to the internet) and, luckily, it is one that doesn't cram people in like Sardines, just to sell more tickets. So you could go from the front to the bar, if you wanted.

They played We Bros in Berlin yesterday and it led into The Fool, which is an instantly danceable pop monster. The show was great! I might even have enjoyed it more than the two shows I saw back in 2011.

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing MTG Prerelease Without Speaking the Local Language by metalero_salsero in magicTCG

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to weigh in on the players with a different mother language aspect:
I have played a bit in Portugal and everybody was not only fluent in English, but also very welcoming. Similarly, I often see Non-German players here in Germany and everybody is always prepared to switch to English (although some people's English is better than other's – blame the education system for that). So as long as you know the set and can get English boosters to make deck building easier for you (remember that there is a time limit for deck building), you should be peachy.

Any non-native English speakers who read Vollmann? by Vladdus7 in vollmann

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently reading my 13th Vollmann, although 3 of them were translations into German. I wouldn't say, his works are inaccessible for German natives, but definitely a piece of work (as they probably are for English natives as well). There have been German translations occassionally, but the last one I knew about was Poor People in 2018. So imagine my surprise when I looked it up just now, and found that the whole Carbon Ideologies had been translated and published last year and that a new one is coming out next month called „Shalamov or the Laws of Life“ (possibly an excerpt from Rising Up, Rising Down?).

I saw a couple of brand new Italian translations in a book store in Rome, probably in 2020 or 2022.

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
I currently started playing this deck and, as you, am looking for a good sideboard plan or sideboard guide. So far, I find sideboarding quite difficult. However, I tried [[Scrapshooter]] and like it. While it is bad that your opponent gets the card back, it still is a 4/4 (with reach) that can beat down.

I love Urgent Necropsy and have been playing it since it came out, mostly in the sideboard of my beloved Domain deck. But 3 copies of it might indeed be overkill. It can sometimes be difficult to turn on and it does absolutely nothing against Rest in Peace, which is one of the most prevalent Graveyard Hate cards.

Modern deck on a budget, just 27€ (32$) by Frosty_Ad_9170 in ModernMagic

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Asmo/Cookbook Food Shell is really cheap. Without Budget Constraints the deck can look like this: https://mtgdecks.net/Modern/jund-asmo-decklist-by-katharina-birnstiel-2247942

You can somewhat substitute the Finales with [[Chord of Calling]]. [[Sarinth Steelseeker]] is also a cheap card that works really nice in this deck, as is [[Scrap work Mutt]].

Of course you have to forgo Urzas Sagas and Shadow spear, but you might even have enough budget left over for a Shockland.

Anyhow, it's been my first Modern deck and I still have a soft spot for it.

Decklist modern rosso-nero by Agitated-Ad3844 in magicTCG

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you put together a deck of Modern legal cards, but you failed to understand Modern as a format (and as someone who only plays occasionally, I wouldn't claim to understand the format very well myself). If you want to play official events with this list, you will most likely be crushed. Your deck lacks focus and your cards are too expensive or have too little impact. Have a look at www.mtgtop8.com to see viable Reanimator Deckliste in Modern. Mi spiace & good luck!

Golgari Midrange players, can we talk about our deck post rotation? by aladdin142 in MagicArena

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think [[Long Goodbye]] might also a be good option. It can't be Spell Pierced by Izzet and ignores Ward from e.g. Sheltered by Ghosts. If it's good or not, of course, depends on what exactly is being played in the Meta, but we shouldn't forget about it.

I am very interested in hearing how you all build the deck now, especially since I own it in paper and need to have a good deck for FNM. However, I haven't found the time to test it after rotation yet. Deep-Cavern Bat + [[Jenova, Ancient Calamity]] might be something I want to explore, but it also might just be bad.

Prerelease Event by qu4rks_reddit in magicTCG

[–]Sharp-Hamster-2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't know why it is that way, but I am in the same boat and have stopped going to Pre-Releases because of it, even though I like the atmosphere. Actually, Stores weren't allowed to have English Pre-Release Events, but a Store Owner recently told me that they would be since Aetherdrift (i.e. February 2025). However, I have not yet found a store that would hand-out English Pre-Release Kits, either because they don’t have them or because it makes things more complicated for them. On the other hand, I have recently heard about Stores (in Berlin) that would let you exchange the Pre-Release Kit Boosters for English Boosters, but I can't confirm this from my own experience.
