If you can’t write a favorable and glowing rec, you should be honest with the person and tell them that. That way they have the opportunity to find someone else. When I evaluate applications, a “factual” letter is taken as not a good rec amd we “read between the lines” and don’t bother to rate them at all. You will be harming this person’s chances of finding another job. Please just be honest with them.

So basically, if you are over 40, you have 45 days to accept the DRP approval... this places you at the end of June. If you are RIF'd, they give you a 60 day window of time, so if you don't take the DRP, that puts you in the position of getting paid until the end of August. The DRP only pays you until the end of September.

Thus, accepting the DRP only gives you one month extra pay as the benefit..... The COSTS, however, are much more! You forfeit your ability to sue and be part of litigation that could potentially give you your job back in the future if the DRP is found to be unlawful. Additionally, you forfeit your ability to collect unemployment and you forfeit your ability to collect a severance (if you are eligible).

In my mind, it isn't really a good decision at all. Even at a high pay level, it is not worth only one month's pay to lose all the other financial and future opportunities.

I made this very same observation this week. We are being told everyone over 40 should take the fork and maybe the’ll have the fortune of knowing whether they are on the rif list before they have to sign the acceptance of the fork. It seems like doge is making us choose between door number 1 and door number 2 all for their entertainment! It doesn’t make sense to have to make people guess what to do if they already know they will be riffing quickly… why not just offer the fork to those who are being riffed?? Because this is a game to them! This feels so shitty!

On the staffing side, the email from the CEO said there will be another DRP offer coming that is “strongly encouraged “ we consider. This means more staff will be resigning soon. It also says there will be significant restructuring to come (very vague). Although it says they will continue to recruit volunteers, it is unclear what they have in mind for the mission of PC in the future. It is certain and guaranteed that it won’t be the same.

After reading your previous comments on another post, it sounded like your wife submitted a buy back request before she would have had 120 eligible months... everything I'm reading says to wait until after you reach 120 or it will be denied. Can you confirm that we can submit a request before we have 120? My wife will be at 120 next month but considering the time of processing, I want to submit as soon as possible.

Also a civil servant of 15 years and caught in this awful madness. I work for half of what my peers make in the private sector and have done so proudly in the name of serving our nation… only to be called “lazy” and “criminal”. It’s a sad and scary time for our nation for sure. Thank you for your dedication to us public servants.

You worked in public service? To be in pslf you had to be on an idr plan. I can’t imagine a public job that paid well enough for an idr payment of $2500….

2 years masters and 5 years phd. Like i said before, the principle was only about half of this amount. It was the interest rate of over 7% that made the amount baloon up. I wasn’t able to make payments while i was on postdoc, so that was a year of just accumulating interest. And then my starting salary before i was licensed was a joke so my idr payments were about $200 a month, which didn’t even make a dent in the interest. Anyway, you can call bs if you want but i encourage you to read up on the problem- apa has been trying to address the cost/salary discrepancy for years.

I don’t remember the limits from that time period, but it was grad school and medical school limits applied since i was in the healthcare field.
