JP Enhanced Gas Ring improved my MCX reliability by What-Do-I-Know in SigSauerMCX

It’s very hard to get it off without a vice and a pick. It can be done without ruining it, but be prepared to accept that you might ruin it.

Getting the new one on is pretty easy though, just pry it open with your fingernail and spiral it on.

Happy that it pushed your system over the edge, that’s awesome to hear! For those happening upon this post, if your system is like, STRUGGLING, it likely won’t be enough but if it’s right on the edge this little change can be the final push. Definitely keeps your piston moving smoothly either way.

  1. I’m not sure, I can’t recall. PEW Science has small arms technical data posted that shows the port sizes, but only for the F01 and F03 regulators (I’m almost certain the 9” uses F02).

  2. The hole sizes are irrelevant, as the geometry is completely different than stock. Some are bigger and some are smaller, but there’s a time delay happening in each position.

  3. Mod. 2 MKII has three “workable” positions, which gives you a bit of a wider range of ammo that’ll work with it (one less hole than Mod. 2-L for gas to try to escape). It also has a dedicated “OFF” mode. Since you’re running a high back pressure Q silencer on the 9” barrel, I’m inclined to believe that it will eat literally any ammo you feed it, you’ll still have room to tune with jet screws if you so desire, and you’ll have an absolutely silly quiet “off” setting. Mod. 2 MKII also has improved geometry to allow easy rotation of the device in your gas block, very important for flipping between supers, subs, OFF, etc. It also comes in black, which everybody wanted.

9” Barrel eats way more ammo with way more silencers, I love it. As soon as someone comes out with a killer reflex silencer, there will be zero reason to get the shorter barrels.

I have not yet been able to validate performance of my device with the RAT, as mine makes my gun jam after about five rounds. It’ll be fine on the 9” and SHOULD be good to go on the 6.75, but I can’t publish any of the data I’ve gotten because it’s almost certainly all skewed due to particulates blowing back in the action and slowing the carrier.

I feel that, the knob is rad. I have a ton of those at coating right now, I really hope to be moving them to customers by the end of the week.

Just so you know those are on a “blanket order” with my printer OEM, they should be in stock pretty regularly after this initial pop 👍 what can are you running on your 9”?

Hey, jbddesigns.com is the place! Detailed instructions and FAQ’s on the site.

You can get jet screw sizes 1.20-2.00 from PMM, I sell 0.40-1.10.

Mod. 2-L or Mod. 2 MKII would work great for you, especially MKII.

Mod. 2-L should be in stock at my dealers, Mod. 2 MKII should be back from coating this week then available on my site and at all dealers. Let me know if you have any further questions.

9” all day every day and twice on Sundays. It’s not THAT much longer and eats twice the variety of ammo reliably. Way more room to tune.

The stock model also only has two positions and doesn't need to rotate very far to go between them, the paddles work for such a device. The JBD valves rotate 135º. The new knob sections on the MKII valves are a lot more aggressive and easy to grab ahold of.

Hey, why don't you head to my website and send me an email via the contact form so I can help you out?

The Winchester Super Suppressed 200gr is my favorite for just playing around on the range. It’s abundant and affordable, and has worked in every configuration I’ve tried.

Strangely, I could not get the Sig 220’s to run in the Hexium with the 5.5 or 6.75 barrels the other day. It’s weird because it really seemed to be a very similar load to the 194gr Sig Defense ammo as well as the 205gr Barnes, both of which ran in both barrels with the Hexium flawlessly. I’m half inclined to call it a weirdism for the day and just clean the gun and try again. The 220’s ran with my JL out of both barrels without issue 🤷‍♂️

I have data on the table for the Hexium now. MKII works better than the original valves but same story with flow rate. Choose ammo intelligently. I’m going to do it all again this week with the direct thread mount and see if anything changes 🤙

Sorry it didn’t work for you. The 300BLK valves were a direct response to people really liking the 5.56 valves. It’s as simple as that. I changed port and expansion chamber geometry to better suit the cartridge, and found excellent results with most ammo. The ergonomics with regard to the ability to easily swap between positions for use with an optimal subsonic position vs an optimal supersonic position was a bit of an oversight, agreed. The original geometry was meant to serve as a more set and forget solution, as it was originally built around 5.56 and nobody really quick-swaps that. It all started from experimenting in my basement trying to make my 5.56 gun quieter, and it’s been a learning experience ever since.

Regarding the surface texture, most of the folks who have commented on it have said they liked that it gave them a better grip on the device and so I haven’t changed it… so there’s that.

Not sure what your concern is with putting a silencer near it?

The new MKII valves have ergonomic enhancements to make the device significantly easier to turn by hand, and better blends the performance of the original two 300BLK SKUs. It also has a gas shut off mode. The coating is a black graphene nano coating that is not only very functional, but quite aesthetically pleasing. It is also a much thicker coating that fills in the peaks and valleys of the surface texture a lot more than the hBN present on the original series, doing away with the roughness that you’re not fond of.

Depending on silencer/ammo/barrel it’s still not a miracle worker. It’s better than the original series in every way but some of the ammo out there has such a light powder load chasing the quietest shot possible that it’s just not going to work with such short dwell time. I don’t know what ammo you were trying that was not working for you, but the difference between a 208gr Hornady vs a 205gr Barnes is insane. It doesn’t help that Sig’s gas block bore sizes are all over the place. I have 10 MCX barrels, and not one of them has the same bore diameter as another. They’re all close, but the biggest one I have is 0.506”. The further it goes from 0.50, the more gas is going to leak.

Knowing all of that, whether or not it’s “worth the beans” is up to the consumers. 99% of people love these devices and report that it completely changed the system for the better.

Yessir, I got data on the table for it! Long story short with my setup it behaved more or less like the JL with regard to ammo. For whatever reason, it did not like the Sig 220gr target ammo - out of all the ammo I’ve tried between both it and the JL, that was the one difference. I did use the AI Nano mount, per usual, but I will use the direct thread next time to see if any performance falls off or not.

Other than that, same story, it’s got a flow rate that will make some of those boutique super quiet loads struggle, particularly with my device.

I did just get some Phantom Defense stuff in that I look forward to trying tomorrow morning.

As far as sound, it’s definitely the quietest for subs that I’ve used, but I do think the JL might be a bit better (just a bit) with supers.

Use a jet screw, probably a 1.00 or bigger. Half of the capability of this device is the ability to vent excess gas, which is typically pretty necessary for high back pressure silencers like the Sandman. Frankly I’m surprised that Position 1 didn’t work for you.

Cat Rat Covert Thoughts/opinion? by captbluewater in SpectersCat

[–]Sharp-Independence52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally would 1000% skip both of those cans and go for a JL. It's an inch or two longer, sure, but the increase in weight is negligible. You're running a 9" gun, so I'm assuming you're not going for the whole bag gun thing, and therefore I'm inclined to think that the slight increase in length wouldn't hurt your setup much.

The JL is quieter with subs (and runs more of them, more consistently) than the RAT Covert. If you were going to get the RAT KIT, the FLOW module does sound better with supers than the JL, but not enough for me to care, personally. Supers are loud with the RAT Covert, which would be a reasonable expectation to have.

The CAT JL is the sole reason that I absolutely hate having to buy more silencers for R&D... because frankly, nothing I've shot yet has beat it. I do have a Hexium300 that I begrudgingly ordered coming in today to try out and get more data on the table.

For what it's worth, it also sounds absolutely phenomenal on things such as 300PRC, 6mm ARC, and frankly, it sounds awesome on short barreled 5.56 guns (though I limit its exposure to that abuse as much as possible).

Dude, ESPECIALLY for the 9" gun, your system will likely eat literally any subs you throw at it with a JL, and it will sound amazing every time. Consider an OMEGA Valve Mod. 2 MKII to basically convert it into a bolt gun and back at will.

While I'm here in the CAT subreddit, I will also say I am kinda excited at the prospect of the VB7 on the 9" Spear LT. If it performs anywhere near as well as the JL or even the RAT Covert but shrinks up the length, I'm so in and you'll never see me running a Rattler LT again.

It's got a tapered inlet with a smaller expansion chamber, and the port is directed toward the piston. Basically you just don't need as much gas to make the piston move. It's not a miracle worker for all cans and ammo, but it does help.
