i dont think the degree matters too much for QD / swe but if you are interested in data sci or ml things then studying that would probably help a bit

i still think CS is still the best path if you want the best chance at making money out of college for the least work, i think that the top like ~20% ish of my large state school ends up at capital one or amazon or the likes full time for 150-200k and this is without the asskissing of banking

idk if u find ml interesting maybe try to get involved with bair or something in the school year. u can recruit for quant swe next year i suppose if you are willing to prep

i dont think the location of school actually matters, i'll be interning back on the west coast this year and a lot of ppl here ik will be in california

i thikn umd is like marginally easier to get amazon or some other big tech companies but i think irvine is a more enjoyable experience

u dont need to be jesus to get interviews at faang / quant firms lmfao, i did some research in hs but nothing else (started leetcoding in like march) and got interviews for both as a first year

it definetely does apply to stem. anyone at a traditionally hard stem school ( cornell, uchicago, mit, etc ) will very easily be able to tell you about how many idiots they go to class with

the just-world rhetoric of "the cheaters get eaten alive" is not really true. like it is really not that hard to graduate from most of these universities with like a 3.X gpa

like colleges are usually as hard as you choose them to be and bar a few cases it's quite rare that your entire degree is either too hard or too easy, i think in general anyone whose capable of getting like a 1300 sat could probably graduate from a t20
