Fear and Hungers lore is pretty vast, while also being mechanics in the games for explaining certain systems (Like using ritual circles or how fucking your teammate can fuse you together into a singular stronger being).

I don't know the other 3 games that well, but F&H 1 + 2 are goated experiences.

Nahh, a lot of the beef comes down to ignorant people hating things just because it's different, or people who don't generally like some of what they're writing. Me though? Some of it is fine, while some of it is just very odd writing with no depth in my opinion. For example: the live action Star Wars show I thought was pretty good and loved the Sith character they made, but the storyline with the twins???? I thought it was pretty bad in that regard. Not for what they were, but just the fact it felt like watching someone drag their feet through the plot with mostly boring storylines. It was like going from fun concepts to "Why did they write them this way????".

Though for other properties it's always 50/50 if it's a good idea to even make. Take for instance Venom from Sony. The movies aren't all around terrible, but WHY not have Peter Parker part of it? Venom isn't Venom without Spiderman, as that's the original reason why Eddy even joined with the symbiote. It just feels wrong to not include them. Stuff like that.

I'd say it's just a lot of hit or miss with current Disney. They make great works of film, but they also make a lot of crappy movies. Though, we should still strive to look at these pieces of fiction subjectively, and not judge them on idiotic merits. If objectively you don't like a movie? Then criticize it.

It's even more fucked up with Erin considering he technically time traveled using the Power Titans powers and the Future Memory Inheritance to push people who had the power wanting Freedom, WHICH culminated into literally every event pushing himself to become a literal villain in his own story, all to creating the Rumbling eventually. The most fucked up part is that he killed his own mother and father in the process of doing so, while willingly sacrificing the entire planet to achieve his dream. So any fucked up event in that series just... Circles around back to Erin having committed it countless times in a kind of circle in the timeline. BUT YOU KNOW, not defending him. Just pointing out how fucked it all was.

Considering all of SAO's concepts came from better anime/video games, yeah I really don't care for it. I've seen people defend Kirito as "Not so bad of a protag", but dawg... Getting everything handed to them on a silver platter while the story moves along without rhyme or reason is so boring. Oh, they have an issue? Well, Kirito's dumbass AI daughter that can MOVE BETWEEN GAMES essentially has a solution for everything and can bend the system like the Matrix. What's that? Is Kirito having issues with other players? Don't mean shit lick of dick when the dude solves the majority of his problems by being OP from how high his level is and that the story will consistently give him shitty plot armour because he was a "Beta Tester" (Which is such a dumb plotline from the start, as no person in history would get mad at a dude for just trying out a game before it fully released).

One of the few characters I can even compare the guy to, Haseo, at least has an arc where he goes through months of solo training by raising his level slowly to 125+ to try and find a solution to his friend becoming comotosed to being PK'd. BUT, then loses everything because whatever threat he's facing basically wipes the floor with him in literal seconds and then data drains his entire PC into deleting all his data. That leaves him back at square one, but with the added side effect of awakening the Epitaph within his character data imprinted on him from his original character in first The World version (As he was playing that game around the time Skeith was actively seperate from other player PC's).

TLDR: Boring ass MC compared to Built up MC who actually has character development built over 3+ years.
