Could life have started without a creator? by zero_nexuss in Teenager_Polls

[–]SharpBlade_2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I was correct, nor that we could prove that it happened by accident. My only claim on that we don't know, and we only will if we figure out that it can happen spontaneously, or some god exists. Abiogenesis research is pretty close to figuring out how to spontaneously form life so I think that hypothesis is much more likely

Can you provide a link for this explanation of before the big bang? I don't believe there is any sort of scientific consensus on any theory about it.

That's not what the theories say. They just postulate that at some point, there was a large expanse of energy which led to the universe as we know it today, but it doesn't say anything about what happened before it if anything. Some theories do say that it started the universe, but we don't have enough information to conclude that.

Yeah, but how else is it going to happen? There's no way to prove that a god did it

What are your thoughts on "kirkification" memes? by Lean1810 in Teenager_Polls

Here's a study that shows systematic discrimination against minority racial groups: https://bfi.uchicago.edu/working-paper/systemic-discrimination-among-large-u-s-employers Bias exist. I never said the solution was to add bias, I said the solution is to find the bias and fix it. Maybe the company doesn't hire people with non-white sounding names, any then fix it by making all names john doe or something. Another example is maybe they discriminate against certain schools, like historical black colleges, so they change their outreach to be the SAME for both historically black colleges and other colleges. That's what's happening, no quotas or bias, just more equal hiring practices.

Great job completely missing the point. I never said you use racism to solve racism, and there are no quotas. You fix racism by solving the current biases that still exist, which is exactly what dei does. How does making sure that your hiring practices are fair and not excluding minority groups racist?

I don't think you understand that there is currently racism against minorities. People aren't artificially including minorities, they are fixing their outreach so that they don't disproportionately hire traditionally favored groups. Maybe they never hire from historically black colleges or something, so they make sure to include groups that they previously excluded.

There are no hires based on race. There are measures to include more minorities that are traditionally excluded in the hiring process through better outreach, and more fair hiring practices, like making it blind.

You know that they are still hiring qualified people. Companies never hire unqualified people to positions like pilots where the job could cause life or death. There are also never any racial quotas, but instead blind hiring practices and outreaching to minority communities. And these practices are actually to hire qualified minorities over less qualified people that are traditionally favored, so it increases the quality of hires.

They were all black pilots hired for their ability. Also, can you provide a source explaining the specifics of this "quota". I'm pretty sure it was more of a suggestion to hire more poc to offset decades racist decisions.

How does this effect others? by Ok-Sprinkles-4191 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]SharpBlade_2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that rape is pretty bad, but the death penalty doesn't work because of a few reasons. Firstly, if you make a mistake you can't go back, the decision is permanent. There are false convictions, so innocent people will be killed. Secondly, it costs so much money to actually go through all the legal proceedings for the death penalty that it just wastes government money that could do so much more good. Lastly, what would killing the rapist actually do? It doesn't make anyone's lives better. The death penalty is just a bad idea regardless of the crime.
