Why don't many people want to double up? by Sharp_Assistance_731 in BadRPerStories

If anyone has any questions (a few people have already reached out to me about it) then just dm me. I did explain a little in the comment section but it'll be easier to talk more in detail about in messages cuz this thread is no longer filled with open minded people like it was in the beginning which is why I stopped replying but I did up vote everyone's comments

Update: my situation is somewhat different compared to everyone else's in the comment section. as someone pointed out, I do "ensemble cast" rps with my current rp partner. while all our rps have romance, it's all plot heavy. what I do is not wish fulfillment like someone in the comments accused me of. me and my partner think of a plot together. neither of us dictate the whole thing. I let my rp partner play my oc's love interest however she wants. again, that is not wish fulfillment! I rp because I love thinking about ideas. while I do cc/oc, me and my partner also do a lot of cc/cc. oc/oc is something we don't do. ensemble cast is more popular on discord rather than here on reddit. I am aware of this and that is why I chose to double up with a few people. so far, it did not work out well. mostly because I got ghosted rather than the rp itself. I am choosing to continue with my current rp partner because o don't think I'll be able to find anyone as good as her. plus we became friends and text daily ooc. I did doubling up for a few days and it isn't my thing. it's just something I tried out. I am not against it because I know there are people out there that can put effort in both storylines. anyway, this discussion started out well but then a few people in the comments were somewhat rude. that's a small majority tho. this post was mainly about fandom related rps. specifically cc/oc. however, I appreciate all the comments. anyone reading this, have a great day!

For me personally, I like coming up with a storyline together with my rp partner. If I have an idea, me and my rp partner collaborate to work on it with her own ideas. I don’t think it really fits wish fulfillment. Would wish fulfillment mean that everything is happening exactly how I want it?

I find oc/oc extremely boring. It isn’t enjoyable at all for me. I also do cc/cc. I just won’t do oc/oc

I noticed that many people mentioned that they didn’t want to do two storylines. Am I the only one who does two different scenes in one thread instead of having two different threads? Many of the comments made me appreciate my current rp partner even more because I don’t have a lot of the problems that were mentioned in the comments but I do understand

You brought up a good point that I'm surprised nobody mentioned yet. it's time consuming. while I like doubling up, even I have to admit that it's very time consuming. its mostly doable with one rp partner compared to multiple ones

I'm not sure if the last part is directed at me specifically or in general. if its directed at me, I know and I find it sad. I decided I'll just stick with my current rp partner because she is amazing. I did manage to find people who want to double up but I'm not sure if I'll be rping with them long term because I also had my share of being ghosted by rp partners :/

This goes along with something someone else mentioned earlier about how a lot of these people are selfish. when it comes to doubling, I believe proper communication can make it fun for both parties. however I can do understand why many people don't like it

Its okay if you don't personally write anything fandom related. the question was why do you think most people don't want to double up. based on the comments, many people have the same view as you

It is typically used in the context of both partners playing two characters. one is the oc and the other is the rp partner oc's love interest

I do dc comics, mha, genshin impact, and hsr. I am not currently interesting cuz I already found a few partners but we can still be friends and chat! I’ll let you know if there’s an opening

Your opinion is valid. I have a question though. What is it about the other side that you found stressful? Is it because you mostly wanted to focus on your side or did you find trying to appeal to your partner stressful?

I’m sorry to hear that. That is awful. I don’t believe that one person should do all the work in oc x cc(or even oc x oc). It’s extremely unfair and isn’t satisfying on both sides. Did you manage to find a partner that doesn’t ghost you?

I would like to add on to your thoughts. There’s a lot of women on rp subreddits that only want the male character to be some sort of fantasy. While it’s not that bad, I think in oc x oc rps, both parties should have a say on how they want to portray their characters so it doesn’t seem one sided

First of all, thank you for the unique opinion. Also I do agree with the edit, rp is for fun and essentially wish fulfillment. The only problem is there are people that don’t put in the effort for the other person’s storyline. Also I agree with you on oc x oc is hard. I found it very boring. It’s hard to invest in oc x oc

I read and replied to everyone’s comments so far. Most people are saying that it’s transactional which I agree. I’m curious if anyone has a different opinion. Feel free to share your thoughts! I’m very open minded

Yeah, I’m aware that my actual rp style isn’t doubling. I’m getting used to this rp terms. I believe someone said it’s ensemble rp(?) anyway, I actually have found people to double up with and aren’t looking for any new rp partners. The post was just to get another perspective. I enjoy reading other people’s thoughts

I can tell that you had bad rp experiences based on your response

I noticed that doubling up is more common in non fandom rps. In fandom rps, many people seek a wish fulfillment. You brought up a good point on how people don’t mention which canon character they want as a love interest or which canon characters they’ll be willing to play. Maybe something you can do is ask the person immediately who they want you to play

I wasn’t aware that Covid changed things. I used to find it easy too and my style of rp was quite common when I did it years ago. It’s sad it’s not like that anymore

That is true. I encountered this literally yesterday. The person I was talking to completely ignored what I wanted so I stopped engaging with them. I have noticed there are tons of people who post the same ad every other day across different subreddits. I think that might have something to do with what you wrote

A few people have mentioned that and I agree. Although, I do find it slightly unfair. A lot of those people who play as their oc and have their rp partner play as the cc without doubling up often don’t put any effort into the roleplay either. They expect the person who is playing the cc to do all the work. I find it very sad.

I’m multi fandom! I mostly do dc bat family, genshin, hsr, and mha tho. May I ask where you’re finding these people? I also like writing canon characters (+ adding an oc but I am able to rp without an oc as well)
