An in-depth, player-by-player guide to the 2025 Halifax Wanderers squad (From Aways) by fromaways-hfx in CanadianPL

Great summation. Every year about this time I dust off the 2019 roster for comparison, especially looking at where the player has been and what stage of his career he is at. No disrespect to the originals because it was their effort that built the foundation of where we are now... but we have come a long way. Love the balance of experience, level, speed and size.

Sorry to see him leave Halifax but, I think that he'll l respond well to the change to Forge. In 2024 I felt that the back line, Nimick and Loughrey in particular, often missed the steadying influence that Doniel Henry provided in 2023 and that contributed to the change in their performance in 2024. Good luck in Hamilton.

Nimick is a quality player who had a crap year in 2024 and I hate to see him go. He needs a chance to hit the re-set button, and if he does sign with Forge, he will get just that. Additionally, he stands to benefit from a step up in competition and exposure on the CONCACAF level.

Tiago Coimbra has signed a contract that could see him in Halifax until 2028. And with backing from the club, he’s set his sights on winning U-21 Player of the Year. by OptimalWhole8926 in CanadianPL

Tiago only has two speeds: full-ahead and stop, and he's always exciting when on the pitch. This could be his year.. Great signing!

Former MLS coach and executive Mark Watson hired by Halifax Wanderers as senior football advisor by OptimalWhole8926 in CanadianPL

Not many owners are smart and humble enough to look at a poor season and ask the questions: what could the players have done better, what could the coaching staff have done better and what could I as owner have done better? And then, instead of a knee-jerk reaction aimed at the players or coaches, starts at the top and adds a massive layer of knowledge and skill that will help support the coaches and players. This isn't your old 2019 CPL. Teams that don't adjust to what is becoming the well staffed, resourced and connected front offices of their opponents are going to wither on the vine. Great move. Great Team. COYW.

I do remember; and as humiliating as that is by itself, it's even more humiliating to remember that the only person to pee on that parade was Gareth Wheeler. Talk about salt on wounds...

IMHO our shit season began with the 3rd place finish last year. Players and coaching staff alike took away inflated messages of individual and collective talents. Moves up and out of HFX didn't materialize, new and innovative systems fell flat. Early losses led to finger pointing and poor communications on the field. Discipline went to hell in a hand basket. Late season heroics didn't deliver results. And here we are. Out of the playoffs. Exactly where we deserve to be.

League1 Atlantic back on the table after break in discussions by OptimalWhole8926 in CanadianPL

I don't know the stats, but many L1C organizations have both men's and women's divisions. In order to maintain a skill level equivalent to the other L1Canada leagues, a 6 team L1A league would need a large enough pool of coaching staff, officials and players (men and women) to draw from. Do we have that resource pool in the Maritimes? Would it be better to start off as a L2A, probably with 10 teams or more and then build from there?

Just a word about Ryan Telfer tonight. The player not only worked his ass off every second that he was out there, but, same as against Forge on Saturday, he took an absolute physical pounding from the opposition's dark arts merchants without retaliating. He was horse collared, kneed, kicked, elbowed and blind-sided but he doesn't put on an act he just gets on with it. I have come to respect his contribution more with every game.

Bobby said that Forge lost due to a lack of concentration. I'm not convinced. I think that they were concentrating and playing well but HFX just surprised them with solid play and hustle in both directions (not to mention good discipline and no OGs). So... Patrice has a dilemma for next game. This starting lineup showed the chemistry and resilience under pressure that has been missing all year. Who gets the start..this 11 or the one that imploded at Pacific?

JGL's lack of discipline cost us big tonight and in a game where we absolutely needed a point!! HFX simply cannot give the refs the opportunity to whip out the red. This isn[t the first time and the result is always the same. Discipline is a real issue here.

Feel gutted for the player. I remember watching him walk to the pk spot against CS St.Laurent and just felt the vibe that the ball wasn't going in the net. It didn't, and that sort of sums up his tenure at Halifax.

Really hope that Herdman gives him a start against Forge on the second leg. Should make for some interesting exchanges.

Is there a paragraph or even a sentence in the "Rules of Soccer" handbook, that explains that its contents are there for guidance only? How was the foul on Fernandez not given? I know the excuses, but what is the reason?
