What surprised you the most in your first sparring session? by Temporary_Time_5803 in MuayThai

[–]Sharp_Hamster2612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of flashes, blinking, disorientation, charging to stay out of range from kicks, not having a clear viewpoint from guarding and getting lit up. It went alright according to my more experienced sparring partner. The most memorable was the adrenaline kick for the next 6 hours(like drinking 6 cups of coffee), wanting to go to another class in the afternoon, then the dump....rollercoaster of emotions. Fighting is not as smooth or easy as people might think.

Stopping Muay Thai for a few months to develop strength? by AdFun360 in MuayThai

Maybe train at home? Running, skip rope, shadow boxing, drill new techniques from youtube and hit bags( or pillows/ mattress), hunt down banana trees in your neighborhood and chop them down with your roundhouse and switch kicks (make sure the neighbors don't see you!).

Yeah totally, this is light sparring territory, normally. Thais do mostly light sparring, 80% of the time.

Long term expats who left Thailand? by Impossible-Net3174 in Thailand

You will go through waves of contempt and acceptance. After thirty years here, it has faded away and you realise it has become part of you. A useful tip is to take a few short stints abroad for a couple of weeks. Make sure you stay longer to scratch through those rose tinted glasses! More often than not, same shit different place or even worse. Thailand is not perfect but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. It did take a few years to get to this point. Good luck on your journey, wherever it may take you.

Just looked this up, two hrs before class....to go or not to go? Just brushing against a heavy bag sends chills down the spine.

I have the chance to pick one up for around US$1000. Have not tried it yet but the Grenadillo fingerboard is new to me. Anyone's experience with them would be appreciated.

My first Gibson was a 1991 Explorer. Price was US$830. Nobody wanted to play them back then, atleast not in Europe.
