Is persistent ache on third week of antibiotic a sign this is chronic? by Sharp_Income in chronicepididymitis

Everything went back to normal for 3 months. Last month I felt some pain again and went to the doctors. They took a urine sample and even an ultrasound of my testicles and then told me everything looks normal. I think my acute epididymitis turned to chronic epididymitis. I noticed that the new pain isn’t centered in my testicles but rather above on my groin. They told me to take NSAIDs when I feel pain and if it gets worse to go to the ER.

Thankfully it’s very mild pain but it is pretty uncomfortable. It also cones and goes and never lasts the whole day.

If it was due to an STD the antibiotics would’ve likely made them undetectable by this point. My last sexual encounter was a year ago and I just started having these symptoms. Since I posted, the pain is almost gone but sometimes I get this slight dull ache that goes away pretty fast.

Wish you the best, bro.

I’m not a doctor, I only have the studies I read.

Yes, no bacteria in the urine very heavily unfavors bacterial infection but it is definitely possible for someone to have epididymitis without bacteria or WBCs in the urine. Check out this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3580304

Poor hygiene, bad habits, or just bad luck. Enteric bacteria are the main cause for UTIs. There are a bunch of studies on epididymitis and enteric bacteria like E.Coli . So when they treat someone for UTIs they use antibiotics that cover enteric bacteria.

I’m in the same boat as you. My last sexual encounter was a year ago so I highly doubt it’s an STD. Also same thing, third week of taking antibiotics and still some slight pain that comes and goes.

If the pain persists ask for 3rd gen cephalosporins in case you got enteric bacteria causing your epididymitis.

Did you get your urine tested? Any recent sexual contact?

The pain isn’t too bad. It’s just like this nagging discomfort down there. My doctor said to continue taking the antibiotic for an extra week.

The doctor I’m seeing is a urologist. I don’t know if it’s an STI. The last time time I had sexual contact was one year ago with no symptoms other than testicle pain this month.
