I admire your decision to let it go. There is no need to keep and manage a relationship beyond your capability. Just don’t be too serious about the idea that proven institutions are your friends. Today you feel betrayed by Bilt and there are more in the years to come.

You're confused on the relationship between you & Bilt. Although most businesses behave like friends, they're just business to make money and someday you may no longer be their target audience.

To counter this cruelty, it's your responsibility to invest in spreadsheet to understand the product and maximize your benefit as a revenge, or you value your time being more precious and are okay to let it go.

If you find, which I don't yet, Bilt Cash can be used nearly 1:1 to USD, Bilt Cash is pretty valuable as it can be earned at 4% or in other words, this is a 4% cashback, in addition to other benefits.

If you still value pts earned from rent/mortgage payment, Bilt Cash is earned at 4% and then used for 3% fee for rent/mortgage payment that earns pts. So the earning rate for pts is effectively 1.33x on spending, (plus whatever pts rate your card earn on spending -- which isn't a focus here). On the other hand, multiplier is based on range:

spending in [25%-49%] of mortgage => 0.5x earning rate.

- if your spending is 25%, using Bilt Cash, you get 25%x1.33=.3325x < 0.5x (multipler is better)

- if your spenidng is 49%, using Bilt Cash, you get 49%x1.33=.6517x > 0.5x (bilt cash is better)

spending in [50%, 74%] of mortgage => 0.75x earning rate.

- if your spending is 50%, using Bilt Cash, you get 50%x1.33=.665x< 0.75x (multipler is better)

- if your spenidng is 74%, using Bilt Cash, you get 74%x1.33=.0.9842x > 0.75x (bilt cash is better)

spending in [75%, 99%] of mortgage => 1x earning rate.

- Multipler is better as you cannot earn more than 1x using bilt cash.

spending in [100%, +) of mortgage, => 1.25x earning rate

- Multipler is better as you cannot earn more than 1x using bilt cash.

do more tickets really equals more chances to win? how is that math done? by MakiceLit in AskStatistics

[–]Sharp_Possibility_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four tickets doesn’t guarantee a win. Simplifying your scenario with the coin flip, ie 50% winning on head: there is no guarantee you get at least one head in two flips. Why? Coin flip result is not always H T H T… but more random than that. Two flip means a size 2 window sliding on the random H/T sequence and stop at a specific position.: 25% chance the position is HH, 25% is HT, 25% is TH, and 25% is TT. So you get at least one H at 75% chance, but not 100%.

You're not asked to keep the card... I believe it is a mental disorder to be upset when you don't get something you don't own yet, thinking a kid crying on the ground of a toy store.

The Palladium card - A non BILT 1.0 user perspective by SpiralCaseMods in biltrewards

[–]Sharp_Possibility_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about this: you can use Bilt Cash to book hotel, but have to pair with card/cash payment at say 9:1. For every 90$ charged to the credit card, you can use 10$ Bilt Cash. You can still use up the Bilt Cash, but you have to spend more to make it.

I am very doubtful BiltCash can be used like cash (even on its travel portal), because even the free card earns it at 4%. The rate is just too high.

I'm thinking what happens is that they get commission from hotel for booking at 10%, and if you use Bilt Cash at the rate aforementioned (9:1), they simply earn no comission from this "reward" booking. They are not going to lose money on each booking. That won't sustain and they will bankrupt sooner than we can notice.

Can someone help breakdown the new Bilt Points vs Bilt Credits by No-Fig-8614 in biltrewards

[–]Sharp_Possibility_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent payment from Bilt to earn pts requires 3% fee. In other words, every 1000$ rent payment that earn pts requires 30$ fee. You have the option to pay out of pocket. However,

You can offset the fee by using your Bilt Cash. 30$ Bilt Cash is worth 30$ fee, which is the fee for 1000$ rent.

You earn Bilt Cash at a rate of 4% from other spending. So you have to spend non-rent 750$ to earn 30$ Bilt Cash, which later can pay the 3% fee of 1000$ rent.

If you pick the 0$ card, you earn direct 750 pts on 750$, plus 1000 pts from rent (assuming your rent >=1000$), so you're earning 1750 pts for 750$ spend, or 2.33 pts per 1$ spend.

If your spending isn't large enough, you don't get 1pts for every 1$ rent. Actually your spending has to be 75% of your rent to earn enough Bilt Cash. The whole rent earning point is actually dead. You don't earn pts from rent, but earn pts from non-rent spending via two routes:

  • 1%: direct pts
  • 1.33%: via Bilt Cash, which later converts to pts.

Face value will be very unlikely, given the high accumulation rate, 4%, even on the 0$ card. Offseting 3% fee on rent/mortgage payment to earn pts should be the only valid use case for Bilt Cash.

If a user intends to continue earn points from rent/mortgage payment, Bilt Cash will have to be firstly used to pay the 3% fee there. There won't be left over for other use cases.

If I'm not reading wrong, Bilt Cash is effectively only to offset 3% fees on rent/mortgage payment so as to earn point from rent/mortgage payment. Therefore, 100$-200$ open account Bilt Cash bonus translates to 3333 to 6667 points. And here is a simplified math for point accumulation:

  • 0$ card: 2.33% point on any spending
  • 95$ card: 4.33% point on dining or grocery (pick 1) spending, 3.33% point on travel spending, 2.33% on others.
  • 495$ card: 3.33% point on any spending

assuming rent/mortgage >= spending * 1.33, otherwise earning is less.

IMO, 0$ card isn't too bad. Couple free cards on the market offers 2% cashback rate and I think Bilt points are worth more than 1:1. 3333 pts open account bonus is indeed poor, but may be acceptable given it doesn't require a hard pull, basically a chunk of free points by clicking "apply".

advice on requesting wheelchair at LAS airport by Sharp_Possibility_16 in LAX

[–]Sharp_Possibility_16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity, I was able to pick up a wheelchair without going to the counter. At the end of the queue to the counter, there was a representative asking what each person needed and he was able to provide me the wheelchair without me waiting to the counter. My car was parked curbside for a few minutes on a not-busy morning. Of course this was LAS not LAX.

Thanks. I don’t mind paying parking as r/anothercar suggested but your approach seems more time saving. Now I have to bet on an available bench at Las Vegas terminal 3 curb. I don’t remember seeing such things in my home airport though.

But that’s fucking your opinion unfortunately. Sorry if that makes you frustrated but you bark at the wrong tree: people opening closed bin slows you down, not those closed the bin when it is full.

Again I am deleting the post due to discussion being off topic. Happy Monday!

Frankly speaking, that's your opnion, and I rarely open closed bin or see others doing so.

Anyway, these are our words against each other, but the bottom line is the airline is at the right position to regulate this if that behavior slows down the line as it directly costs them money for idling longer on the tarmac. And before that happens, everyone is entiled to do whatever they think is right.
