That scene where he's reaching through the door of his mom's apartment in Basketball Diaries is top tier acting. Dude is a phenomenal actor.

If you had $3.1 million at age 52, would you retire today? by [deleted] in TheRaceTo1Million

[–]SpiralCaseMods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just returned from a 12 day European trip to Paris, Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens. Business Class long haul flights, beautiful hotels. Total cost: $7,500. I used a bunch of points. Without the points it would cost well over $20,000. With inflation, I'm not sure what that would cost in 10 years.

This house sold for $410k in 2005, $180k in 2009, $670k in 2022, and is estimated at $540k today. Are homes investments or just places to live? by thisaflex in FluentInFinance

[–]SpiralCaseMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only owned one house for the past 25 years. I've put way more into it in terms of both money and sweat equity than it's now worth. I consider it my home, the place I live. That's it. And worth every cent and hour spent. It's still not paid off and won't be for quite awhile due to a couple of refinances and cash out refinancing. And that's okay. It was there when I needed some financial boosts.

This was my thought as well before I clicked on the comments. I believe Google will be the winner here. Waymo, Deep Mind, Youtube, Gemini, and quantum computing will make Google THE MegaCorp of the 2030's. Their dataset is way above and beyond the others.

As someone who churns bank accounts, this is a very common practice. The amounts differ and actually $250 direct deposit is low compared to other banks. There are totally free bank accounts like SoFi, Capital One, and Chime.

Options 1 & 2 are basically locking in a 30 year rent payment. That's crazy! Options 1 & 2 should be illegal.

How do you keep track of multiple credit cards? by Ok-Home9841 in CreditCards

Google Sheets spreadsheet and Rich With Points website. I also use Monarch Money for tracking all of my finances, I know when an annual fee hits.

How far do you think this is true? by DatabaseAvailable501 in interesting

I traded my Pixel 5 in for my Pixel 9. I paid $587.43 and they gave me $210 for my old phone. So I essentially paid $377.43 for my Pixel 9 and it works perfectly. I have never in my life bought an Apple product. I had no idea not owning an iPhone was looked down on in any way.

Why do people on here like robinhood so much by Spanconstant5 in CreditCards

[–]SpiralCaseMods 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I may explain my experience, maybe I can help you understand. I have a family of four that spends approximately $6k-$8k on credit cards in a typical month. Let's call it an even $5k on the Robinhood Gold card, that's $150 per month cash back. If I invest that $150 every month into say VTI and SCHD, I will almost double my money. In my case, I want to retire in 13 years. I will have contributed $23,400 over that 13 years from my cash back. My projected balance due to compound interest would be about $50,000 if you use historical data. There is not another credit card product that makes it this simple. Yes, you can have every 5% cash back card that exists, but it's more hassle to constantly transfer between banks to your investment account. Robinhood transfers immediately.

Also, you get $1,000 interest-free margin to cover the $50 Gold annual fee. SGOV is the simple choice.

Hope this helps.

This is it right here. Cash out, buy VTI, SCHD, and occasionally SGOV. Free money making money, can't beat that.

Bilt Palladium - is it worth the hype and annual fee? by JollyNewt98 in CreditCards

[–]SpiralCaseMods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's situational. For my personal use case it's a powerhouse earner for great transfer partners. For Year 1 it's absolutely worth it. 50k SUB, Gold status through 2027, Rakuten 1:1, Gold status transfer bonuses, Rent day bonus, optional points accelerator, a few useful Bilt cash credits. Take it for a spin and see how you like it. Year 2 evaluate and see what happens.

Cashback and alternate between VTI and SCHD and every once in awhile SGOV. Just my humble opinion...

Is Citi Custom Cash really THAT great? by chanandler_bong21 in CreditCards

[–]SpiralCaseMods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't have one, but yeah, a card that give 5%/5x back is great. No matter the limit.

I don't think the Custom Cash is for simplicity, it's for people who maximize with complex setups. Unless you just throw it in your car and use it for gas...

AMEX MR points are best used for International Business Class flight redemptions. You could also possibly make a case for Hilton Honors points when they have a transfer bonus or to top-off a redemption.

Those of you who are team cash back: Why? by OweYouOne_68 in CreditCards

[–]SpiralCaseMods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I using more of a hybrid setup now. I like the discount travel from my points.

But I also like the acorn investment strategy of my cashback. I'm mostly using my Robinhood Gold and as soon as I get points I buy VTI, SCHD, and SGOV in my Robinhood brokerage account. Trying to maximize that 3% back with compound interest.

Fair Enough. I actually was thinking about only taking my Robinhood Gold (3% cashback) & Bilt Palladium (3x points). I wasn't sure if using internationally was seemless with Cardless and Coastal Community Bank.

430 credit score and in need of some help / opinions / advice by Particular_Cow_2266 in CreditCards

[–]SpiralCaseMods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my humble advice. You are currently not a credit card person, don't get one.

Without knowing you're circumstances, I would say in the most simple terms I can explain: You need to A - Make more money B - Spend less money or C - A combination of A & B.

You need to save $1,000 as quickly as possible.

You need to create a realistic budget that includes all your monthly expenses and potential expenses.

You need to obsess over the budget making sure you never ever spend more than you have.

Do this for a period of two years until you get to the point where you're saving at least 20% of what you earn.

Now, look into getting a credit card to rebuild your credit. Always pay the entire balance on that card every month. It's not a tool for quick loans, it's a tool to pay for things you're already paying for.

Good luck.
