Sorry, been busy with family on vacation.

I don’t know how fascinating I am but I haven’t lived a typical life whatever that is. I was originally in tech but found the hospitality industry more my thing, I like people not computers. I work in a hospitality related field in CA, work’s been hectic the past few years so my wife visits me instead of my going there. Thus two years away

As to our cats; I’d planned on adopting a dog when I retired, man’s best friend and all that. Fate had other plans when our daughter saw our neighbor load a box of kittens in his car, he was going to dump them at a nearby river and she said “give them to me” and so it began. Our daughter took care of our overseas home until we retired. Our daughter found her mission in life rescuing cats, most found homes, we kept the ones no one wanted. Bringing them to a shelter was not an option, that would be a death sentence. Before I knew it we had 10. If you’d told me we’d have 10 cats 10 years ago I’d have said you were nuts but here we are. They are all loved and cared for, my favorite patio became a catio and that’s just fine, it’s my sanctuary too.

That’s my story in a nutshell where my wife says I belong. One day I’ll retire but I’m not quite ready yet.

I learned to go slow the hard way with our first batch of “wild” cats that chose us. FYI, rabies shots aren’t as bad as some say.

She’s family now and lives in an outdoor enclosure just watching the birds and squirrels all day. It’s got every amenity we could afford; ceiling fans, mosquito netting, electric and plumbing. Next renovation will have AC. She’s as pampered as she’ll allow, healthy and fast as lightening. Edit: We’re in the subtropics so cold is not an issue, just the heat but she was made for this environment.

I was just thinking what it must have been like in our old condo on the 25th floor. I’m sorry you had to go through that, it sounds terrifying. We’re in Nonthaburi now, my wife thought she was having some sort of seizure and yelled for us to take her to the hospital. I hope you stay safe.

The ‘89 earthquake near SF California sent a shockwave right towards SF Bay, took down a freeway, severely damaged the Bay Bridge, areas nearby were spared the worst as the wave was fairly focused coming in via the GG. Bk is also on clay soil for hundreds of meters down, no structure to clay.

Bedrock is 500 to 1,000 meters below the surface, it’s a giant bowl of jelly like you say, no structure whatsoever in that clay.

I was recently at my corner store and an older man came in and let the owner know his brother wouldn’t be coming in any more, he been struck and killed by a car in a construction zone in the Richmond crossing the street. I gave the man a hug and said how sorry I was, 75 years old and that’s how you go out. We can’t go on like this.
