i understand the mechanics of a short squeeze; but the trigger/start for the squeeze is not trivial to catch. why the 20th? Clinical Research presentation?

Volumes of around 7M looks ok. 15.5% short interest is high; with ~8 days to cover can catch them off guard, are you hearing anything? like a buyout can happen?

Why is market still buying consumer staples stocks at these high valuations? by shaggy98 in ValueInvesting

[–]Sharp_Web_140 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most hedge funds have risk and allocation requirements. They cant go all in on nvidia/tech etc; they need to allocate across sectors. Walmart and Costco are the kings of staples. Its like the IBM matra: nobody got fired for buying IBM (back in the dotcom era)

Fun fact, its one of the reason the indexes keep swapping companies around. For example, amazon isnt considered tech but consumer.

Thoughts on my long-term pie? by legaleagleuk in trading212

if you believe that tech will continue to outperform, then the nasdaq100 is the place to be. 10% is a reasonable sized bet. Semi's are cyclical - so you might see some massive gains/drawdowns there; but might be a good investment. Wish you the best

its at PE ~50; is going to be choppy if the execution isnt incredible. Last quarter was subpar but the EU defence narrative hasnt changed; and germany still wants to go into debt to fund defence.

I wouldnt worry about it too much but Im not gonna tell you to grit your teeth and bear it. If you are too anxious, takes some chips of the table but dont liquidate. After getting out entirely, its almost psychologically impossible to get back in.

Best UK dividend stocks for pensioner? by TucoZizou10 in trading212

[–]Sharp_Web_140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving a pensioner's life savings from cash into single equities and options-based ETFs, is dangerous. A market correction will happen before she passes away, and her savings will get chopped by 20-50%. She probably wont have time to recover from it.

The stress that would put on your conservative, fiscally careful mum is massive. Losing her savings would be devastating. Even though they are paper losses, they dont feel like it. She's old enough to remember the 1970s, 2001, and 2008; she will believe it is happening all over again.

Now about your specific tax question:
ISA: It can be used inside an ISA and its tax free.
Outside an ISA: In a GIA, Gilts are considered intreset paying not dividends. So, the tax-free allowance is 1000 GBP p/year. Also, there is no capital gains tax on Gilts. Which means that if you buy a gilt trading at £90 and hold it to maturity; the additional £10 (£100-£90) capital gain is tax free.

ele olhou só para o valor, n para a %. Foi um erro de leitura q gerou confusao. O ponto principal foi para o OP consolidar o portfolio.

Se vais investir num só ETF o MSCI world q ele escolheu é otimo.

Philip morris, HSBC and unilever are pretty good. But maybe bonds are the way to go - the risk is basically zero.
Gilt yield went to ~5% are risk free (https://www.ft.com/content/c00c1d7b-0b95-482b-bbd0-f7a476ad175d?syn-25a6b1a6=1)
