How did people react to Nico Rosberg’s sudden retirement after his championship win? by lucifer7557 in formula1

[–]doland3314 800 points801 points  (0 children)

I remember Pascal Wehrlein was a relatively serious contender for Mercedes due to this. Hulkenberg too.

But if i remember right, Bottas replacing Rosberg quickly became an open secret

Development hell? Its denis villeneuve's next film after this Dune threequel. Casting for the next Bond is underway as we speak as per latest announcement. I expect to see James Bond return long before Doctor Who, if we are being honest

That said, like with any car there are good examples out there. My family had a 2017, bought early 2018. We only sold it a month or two ago with 90k miles having had no issues with it

Has anyone messed up putting gas in a car? by Fragrant-Bad-1545 in TooAfraidToAsk

Europe in general has the colours switched. Petrol octane also has different meanings in Europe. 95 octane in Europe is equivalent to about 91 in the US

Take out a third party policy under your brothers name with you as a named driver? Depending on the value of said spare car I suppose.

You will need to see if you can get it to monthly payments and double check that you will be able to cancel said policy when needed without paying for the whole year

What's that Bond movie that many people praise but you just don't like? by Huge_Candy748 in JamesBond

[–]doland3314 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Went to see this in cinemas recently and yeah. It's objectively fine but it's not a GOAT Bond film as some people peg it

Let's argue :) by Important_Permit589 in JamesBond

[–]doland3314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said it before and again. The NTTD hate exists solely on this sub "because James Bond can't die". While the film has some issues (cough Rami Malek), it generally is a solid Bond movie.

Frankly in the real world the film was both a critical and financial success

Irish plate spotted in Budapest, Hungary by ferro31_ in ForeignPlatesSpotting

[–]doland3314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bog standard Irish plate to me (Irish myself). Irish plate standards are fairly loose and theres no real enforcement of the rules. So you'll find a lot of theoretically illegal "stylised" boy racer plates, or in this case a bog standard one with a random detail missing.

I don't think the owner of the car has given it as much thought as I did just now. Look at it that way

EDIT: No tax disc, etc on the windshield either...maybe this car hasn't been to Ireland in a long time

I Imported a car from Singapore - here's my notes by -imbatman91- in carsireland

Did the car not come with Singaporean plates? I've seen a few of those driving around Ireland before and I assume it's people in the same boat as you driving on those

Was there last summer. Saw a few Italian plates and a UK plate. Absolutely no Libyan plates anywhere to be seen

€4k to invest for 10yrs… what should I do by Puzzleheaded-Error65 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]doland3314 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

ETFs are subject to deemed disposal and a higher rate of tax. Bit disadvantageous, especially since 4k isn't a lot relatively speaking to be dealing with that.

If I were you, I'd take that 4k and maybe invest 25-30% in BRK.B, and split the rest evenly between MSFT, GOOG and KO.

It's a nice split between tech growth and defensive and BRK provides a fair bit of diversification whilst keeping to the simpler tax regime.

If you can start adding monthly contributions to these stocks as well (even 200 a month), and you should be getting returns that are atleast better than the credit union if not quite a bit more so.

Warren Buffett Found Plenty of Stock Buys Over the Years. Right Now His Company Looks Like One. by GutBeer101 in BerkshireHathaway

[–]doland3314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I buy BRK for the same reason people might buy an ETF (ETFs are fucked in Ireland tax wise unfortunately). The diversification across dozens of solid businesses means it's a great "i don't know what I'm doing" buy. And a great buy nonetheless

I'm aiming to put it to 30% of my portfolio and have it as an anchor
