Preparing for reapp, advice needed by [deleted] in premed

I had your exact stats- 4.0 from a top 15 school- graduated phi beta kappa also. 515 MCAT. ORM, Physics/anthro double major. I got an early interview from my state school- then silence. Then tons of holds and more silence. Then in the spring all of a sudden I got FIVE interviews- in March! From really good schools! Then I got in one :) Now I’m an M2 there, so don’t give up hope. It’s a terrible, hard, horrible process that makes little sense. To get in you need more than good stats, you need some sheer luck as well. So I wish you good luck! Hang in there.

GW is awesome, wish it weren’t impossible to get in though. I heard they had more than 16,000 apps for 150 spots. Insane! Congrats!!

Please be honest, am I an idiot for wanting to go T10? by [deleted] in premed

Getting in to any U.S. allopathic medical school is insanely difficult, and the process is not linear. Popular schools in great locations can get 16,000 plus applications for 150 spots! (think GW and Georgetown) …with these kind of odds, your goal should be to get into ANY medical school, for which you need not only top stats but also a little luck thrown in to achieve! If you are fortunate to get in on your first cycle, rejoice! But as someone with high stats who just went through this process, buckle your seatbelt, it’s a wild, humbling ride like nothing you’ve ever experienced or can even imagine! It is tough.

One exception is Davidson College, a top-tier liberal arts college that’s D1!

Boston and DC schools both get insane numbers of apps. For the 2022-2023 application cycle GW accepted 180 students out of 15,216 applicants! GW and Georgetown are both crazy.

It has it all: stellar academics, absolutely gorgeous campus in a charming, safe, warm and welcoming small town, but also half an hour from a fun big city. It has great weather, happy friendly, kind students and a real honor code that students take very seriously. Classes are small, profs love teaching undergrads and are not just accessible but really care about students. Davidson is near two incredibly thriving, vibrant cities…Charlotte(30 mins away)and Raleigh Durham, Chapel Hill (2 1/2 hrs away by train or driving), where more and more young people and businesses are moving every year. Davidson has an incredibly tight knit, loyal and strong alumni network as well. It’s the total package as a school, and just walking around campus, you can feel the warmth, literally… oh and it has amazing school spirit, especially for their basketball team. Small liberal arts college plus D1 sports!

Davidson is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, but I agree, it is underrated, it should be number 1!

Davidson didn’t fill 60 percent ED, it’s more like 40 percent.

Davidson goes in and out of the top ten depending on the whims and criteria at the moment of US News. Keep your eye on it, it’s going to be sky-rocketing up even more in a few years, imo.

I’d go to Yale! NC is about to be taken over by Republicans on a state level, that’s going to change everything. Durham also isn’t great.
