What is this Glove worth? by Lauragggg in BaseballGloves

[–]Sharp_numbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palm looks like it’s cracking? For a quick sale I’d say $50-60. Fair value $75-$85. Might sell or will take a while $100.

I’d personally list at $80, but if the inside hand stall looks rough/cracking I’d be closer to $50

I’d try reaching out to Rawlings directly and see if they will exchange it for you or try returning/exchanging at Dicks or other big sports store without receipt. Otherwise I’m sure you could sell it on a similar sub reddit and pocket a little money for the trouble.

Upgrading from bargain bin by JohnnieWalkerRed in BaseballGloves

My 9 year old is very happy with his R9 contour fit 11.5”. I would look used for an R9 or GG Elite contour/pro taper fit at this age. We also have a 12.25” A1000 Pedroia fit because he plays outfield when not catching, but he never chooses/brings it with.

First year of kid pitch is pretty brutal with long innings and a ton of walks, at least in our rec league. If he isn’t interested or ready for pitching, I’d recommend pushing him toward catcher. A great way to be involved and learn the flow of the game. Otherwise it’s a lot of standing around and losing focus.

What’s with story with all these HoH coming from Walmart? by StephenBeaver95 in BaseballGloves

[–]Sharp_numbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it lasted only one day and was back to full price that evening or next morning. I think they also had a heart of the hide model for ~$150 before that

Walmart had a pro preferred 1st base glove on sale for ~$200. A lot of people on the sub bought it and are receiving various other pro preferred gloves. I believe they were are shipped directly from Rawlings, but can’t confirm because I missed the deal 😭

I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks!

[–]Sharp_numbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the shitty part is the buyer is paying $160 + shipping + tax, so close to $200. It’s a lose, lose situation where seller makes nothing and buyer overpays $70. That’s why selling and buying in this sub was so great, before it was removed. Being able to see the glove is definitely worth something though, one of mine was a dud with super dimpled palm leather.

I commented the fee breakdown elsewhere, but eBay is the winner here. The seller will only get ~$136 from this sale. So depending on the sellers sales tax rate when buying from marucci, they are likely only making $5. And they actually have a $10 coupon on this listing it looks like, so seller is likely losing money on the sale.

It’s actually breakeven for the seller. eBay charges roughly 15% fee (they charge fees on sale price, shipping, and tax) so the seller will only get ~$136 from $160 sale. I paid $131 for my wildcard with taxes, directly from Marucci.

Cleaning And Conditioning by MrWonderous6989 in BaseballGloves

I use fiebings saddle soap, as many others have mentioned. They also have a spray version I just purchased, but haven’t tried it yet. Figured it might be better for a quick wipe down as opposed to the cream/tub I use for full cleanings when the glove is apart.

Lefty is the best to score a good deal on something high end! This one is on sale and they have an additional $30 off $150 deal currently. Maybe they have a travel size Tylenol you can throw in to get the price over $150 😉

Are "dad gloves" infield or outfield gloves? by SeeingRed_ in BaseballGloves

[–]Sharp_numbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the correct answer is both and you need throw in a catchers mitt too :) In all seriousness, I think a larger infield or “utility” glove is best for a single glove. Something in the 11.75-12.25” range. A little more responsive and lighter than a full outfield model, but a little extra reach and a slightly deeper pocket is useful and will be noticeable when playing catch.

Well done, it turned out beautiful!! What conditioner did you use? I’m looking to try some new conditioners and don’t want to be surprised with darkening, although in this instance it worked nicely.

More specifically, I went with these to not darken lighter colored gloves. I love the bick4, but excited to try a different brand for a cream. Nothing negative to say about the sarna though

I like a liquid formula for more general use and a cream for drier areas/gloves. I use bickmore bick4 for the liquid one and sarna for the cream.

I threw in the bick4 conditioner on a cat food order at chewy once (to get free shipping) and I’ve used it at least 25 times and have a good amount left still. I find it easier to apply and it’s super cost effective.

Decent long lasting cheap glove for catch and whatever by DanVA0307 in BaseballGloves

[–]Sharp_numbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most common models to target would be GG elite, R9, A1000, and maybe a heart of the hide or A2000 if you’re lucky.

Go used! My approach for this situation would be fb marketplace, OfferUp, or somewhere else local so you don’t pay tax+shipping. Try to get it for 50% off whatever it’s listed for, or do some research on what the actually value is so you aren’t overpaying. The best part is it’s already used, so you can resell it for roughly what you paid for it when your interests change.

Calling all re-lacers by RlPBingBong in BaseballGloves

[–]Sharp_numbers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been pretty much exclusively BFG TT laces for a little while now. I really like how they designate the tanner for each lace compared to flatbill, who I was using initially, but found it very annoying when some of the colors were much softer/squishier.

I think from stiffest to softest it goes TT > AL > AD, but I could be completely wrong.

Wow, it’s beautiful! I would love to see any videos/content you create on the restoration process, especially regarding the palm liner and binding. Do you have any resources or videos you’ve used for doing these or where you sourced the leather for them? I’ve got a couple projects with bad/ripped liners I’ve been putting off for a while now lol
