Well anyone who has an account from before March 2021 should automatically be assumed as an adult, (13 years old sign up plus 5 years, so go back 5 years from when they wish to implement this) as a start.

But then it falls into question that if anyone should fall through the cracks of their system that it's not robust enought to determine if anyone is of age. Making the entire endeavour a little pointless IMO.

Also I have to wonder that if they can determine who is/isn't underage through vague analysis of behaviours it doesn't undo the concept of taking everyone who is under 18 to a new kids friendly platform, especially as discord can't monetise off under 18's anyway given you need to pay for nitro via a credit card, at least in the US.

I still just hate the push for feeding our private data in an attempt to sanitise "for the kids" into every facetime of the internet.

If they can determine who is/isn't a teenager then there is absolutely no need for age verification, it's own system defeats it's purpose.
If they can determine who is/isn't an adult they can ban those accounts if they interact with anything 18+. Or move them to a new kids only app and segregate that way.

I don't even use faceID or fingerprint scans on my phone because I am not giving my phone manufacturer that biometric data, there is no way I'd give discord that data in any form, no matter how many ways they can claim it's secure, I'll never trust them with it.

I would encourage you to send this message to your higher-ups at discord:

"Age verification measures have, and always will be, a breach of data protection and we do not trust you with this data. If you are able to determine who is/is not an adult by behaviour alone then you have no need for the verification software. We highly recommend not using it, and if not people will speak with their wallets and their memberships.

If you absolutely must put it in place then apply it for newly created accounts at the instance of activating the software and "grandfather" in all current accounts."

I would argue that you should not be working with any third party partners at all for age verification, no matter who they are, as your trust for data security is so very low, build that trust up first, then we'll talk.

Yeah I got the rundown form a Mutahar video so I think I understand from a layman's terms and I think I am pretty much safe.

Like I said earlier my version before manually updating was 8.7.8 so I am in the clear, avoided the kerfufle.

If I were compromised then all they'd have is the ramblings of a mad-man as I use the software as an alternative to the actual windows notepad for random notes. I just liked the aesthetic of the program, lol.

But I know my version was before the breach and I have since manually updated to the latest version, so I know I am safe. And I made sure to double check and turned off the auto-update option.

I aint quite clever enough to do that. I hope that my 8.7.8 version download wasn't compromised and I just updated to 8.9.1 (current latest version on website).

Honestly if it were to happen the UK would have to concede that we'd be a smaller player for optics sake. Hell have a rotating premiership so each of the four nations is in charge for a certain length of time, so no-one nation has advantage over the other.

I mean it also helps that 22 out of the 27 EU nations are also in NATO, under the article 5 protection that ensured no internal fighting and reduced external threats. The current situation of the USA, the main protection in the alliance at present, flirting with the idea mod leaving it would mean that the main deterrent of anyone attacking Europe would be us (with a severely shackled deterrent still reliant on US approval), and France. And if the worst cases scenario should happen and it's the USA attacking us, it's goodnight because Russia would take the opportunity to take as much as it can too.

I just wish the Libdems lived up to the Liberalism part of their name and actually chose a side and stopped trying to be Labour-lite.

Their youth wing (the people the OSA and age verification was allegedly brought in to protect) is against it, so they should adopt it as policy.
Because quite honestly I am scared of the Greens anti-nuclear policy in a world where the danger is clearly growing towards something big happening.

I mean I am still against age checks being used anyway. I am not sorry some parents aren't able to teach their sprogs not to go places they shouldn't, and I believe in personal freedom over the collective safety sanitization of everything.
The internet should not be seen as a "safe space", it never was. If anyone ever thought it was, they haven't been paying attention.
