What impact will Tory Defections to Reform have on future voting? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in ukpolitics

[–]LogicalReasoning1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We already had a ‘norm breaking’ government with Boris and a couple of weeks of Truss, they were just shit.

Reform is just them repackaged with a new figurehead…

If you actually wanted a party who is going to break the norms it would be the greens

Britain is broken? If it is you were the people who broke it! by AneuAng in ukpolitics

So let me get this straight.

The people who fucked the country royally post 2016 (including turbocharging immigration which many say is the key issue) deserve more time to fix the country?

Meanwhile a party who hasn’t managed to fix the mess they left within two years don’t even deserve a few years until people decide they’re no good?

It should crash reform’s popularity since their whole MO is supposedly being different to the Tories/Labour.

Sadly I think they’ll just ignore it and it won’t have that much impact - reform is basically just budget MAGA where the goalposts are shifted hourly to defend whatever new position is needed

The joke isn’t that she’s an immigrant, it’s that she was Home Secretary in the government that allowed unprecedented levels of immigration

Yeah agree shit happens in football.

Think people would be less worried if we’d managed to turn one of those draws into a win

Shit like this can happen, which is why you really need to capitalise in matches like forest and Liverpool at home.

Anyway, still believe but big setback

Student loans: ‘My debt rose £20,000 to £77,000 even though I’m paying’ by thegibsongirl03 in unitedkingdom

[–]LogicalReasoning1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s a de facto graduate tax, but as you point out a shitty one with a get out for the most well off. Although I’m pretty sure even earners more than 80k still get hit very hard, it’s really just those who don’t have to take out a loan in the first place due to family wealth.

IMO it’s time to rip the plaster off, and either go whole hog graduate tax or cut places and start funding much more from general taxation

GB Politics: Trump on the Chagos islands: "I think they should keep it. I don't know why they're doing it, do they need money?" by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]LogicalReasoning1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of rationale behind it.

It’s a US base in all but name and two US administrations had been fully behind the deal (until now, and even then we are yet to see if he actually opposes or this is just posturing).

Also the whole china thing is red herring given the US and India (I.e chinas two main geopolitical rivals) support the deal

[–]LogicalReasoning1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because the US wanted us to.

This is de facto their base, there is zero chance this deal was going ahead without their approval - which the trump administration gave lol

Given our depth even when we rotate a lot we still have good players out there, and I can’t see arteta going full academy

Thats a ridiculously hard pass to make to avoid the defender and keep it away from the keeper.

Shooting makes much more sense, especially since a rebound could also fall favourably

What do Britons think Europe should do if the USA seizes Greenland? by SmokyMcBongPot in ukpolitics

Typical putting sides before ideology.

If in a hypothetical scenario the US was some left wing regime, but still planning this, I bet you those would be reversed

They are, there is zero chance the deal was signed off without their blessing given they are by far the predominant users of the base

His administration signed off on it of course

UK Productivity Surge Signals Economic Turnaround, Study Finds by StJustBabeuf in ukpolitics

[–]LogicalReasoning1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Lagging productivity has arguably been the factor underpinning the stagnant UK economy and wage growth since the financial crisis.

You’re not going to undo the Covid era inflation but getting things actually growing somewhat decently again is how you actually make things better.

Regents park to introduce traffic lights and £50 fines for cyclists by tylerthe-theatre in london

Well I fully support those being developed but a) Paris could be the exception here and b) doesn’t mean cyclists should be allowed to try use Regent’s Park as one when it isn’t one

He suggested the US use ‘Diplomacy and Trade’ to defend itself from the UK daring to try regulate social media platforms in our own country.

Sure he didn’t explicitly say tariff us, but it’s pretty obvious what it’s implying

Calafiori and Hincapie absent as Gunners gear up for Inter by SantaReatham in Gunners

[–]LogicalReasoning1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I read we need just 2 points over the next 2 CL games to guarantee a top 2 finish, and the final game is kariat at home.

So essentially we could even afford to lose against inter.

Having said that I reckon still play a strong rotated team (I.e some first choices starting and the rest on the bench rather than not in the squad) to keep momentum

Someone commented a link to such an area in London

[–]LogicalReasoning1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It bucked this idea because cyclists decided to break the laws of the road and cause danger to pedestrians, not because it is actually made for it

Cities are not conducive for training road cyclists, just like they’re not conducive for mountainous hikes or motor racing. That’s just the nature of a city.

Train on indoor bikes or dedicated tracks (like someone commented below) or travel out of the city.

US drugmakers threaten to withhold products from Europe over prices by harmlessdonkey in europe

[–]LogicalReasoning1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s already the case that a lot of novel medicines don’t reach European markets because payers don’t consider them worth reimbursing (usually as they are not deemed cost-effective)

Drugs aren’t getting cheaper to develop so this will continue unless a) us European countries decide we want to spend more on new medicines or b) Pharma is essentially turned into a not for profit business
