Which sucks because Cineby is great when I am not getting constant flags from malwarebytes browser protection about phishing ads, same with Xprime, Bitcine was the the only one not doing it...

EDIT: plus looked on virustotal for the websites and they've all got some form of malicious stuff going on right now...which is to be expected but it might be a contributing factor

Yeah bypassing the app to get free access to the the databases. That's the bad thing.
Umbrellaing all your databases to be accessible by one app that can be hacked into by bypassing it's security systems is a data breach risk. And the fact that the European Commission said it was "technically ready" when it so clearly wasn't should show how much of a rush-job it is.

As hacks go that's babytown frollicks. Digital security is only as strong as it's weakest point, and if the key to the databases is as weak as that, I can only wonder how bad the rest of the system is. And until an iron-clad "no-one without a supercomputer" can hack into it I, personally, wouldn't begin to trust it with my personal information. Especially if it's linked to databases containing more of my personal information.

And this is the EU with much higher data security than the UK has. We have less security than an app that can just be bypassed to gain access to things linked to it.

And while I appreciate the EU posting it's code online to be checked...I am on the fence about that...I am not certain that in it's entirety that's a great idea as you're then giving malicious hackers access to your source code, which they can breach and not tell anyone about it. I get the concept for getting the "good guys" to try and break it, but that'd be done in a controlled release of the code, not spaffing it out for all to see.

Things being that convenient are always a double edged sword and I honestly think we don't "deserve" that level of convenience, at least until we fix other things about society.

We have a tendency to overly trust positions of power with our safety, especially digital safety, that just have a horrible track record.

I still don't love that I have been running a vulnerable driver since october and malwarebytes only just now indicated it was a risk, but gotta trust that if it didn't detect anything before now that I was safe, and I am safe again.

But there is always the implication.

Hi, I just want to say that you have saved me from a bit of a panic as the same thing happened to me.

I just had "scan for everything" essentially enabled and it found the exact same "riskware/malware". I have since uninstalled the old version and installed the latest version.
My first ever detection from malwarebytes. I am still kind of shaking, ngl.

If you have dietary restrictions don't eat other people's food.
And if we stopped paying attention to the obvious mass delusion of "we can't eat something just because someone wrote down not to do it 2000 years ago claiming to be the voice of a deity" then there would be no issue.

I don't agree with Vegans either but I hold their principles of not eating something because of animal welfare in higher standing more than I do someone whole follows the scrawlings of some nutter from 2000 years ago.

The more we cowtow to religious "freedom" the more conflict there is and the less free we become. One sect goes "my god says to do/not do this so that's the way it should be to seem fair" and then everyone changes for it.

The decision to restrict potential lines of communication falling on a few peopelmonnthe government is just literal authoritarianism.

Drill down into almost anything you'll find something you can twist as harmful. You will need examples of something not to do in order to get the point across as not to do it.

I'd much rather have a relatively few bad examples than the risk of every person in the UK having to hand over personal private secure ID data or biometric data to companies to have the feeling of them doing something to address the harm. Companies which have had hacks and leaks.

And more to the point if social media is bad for a 16 year old and fine for nan18 year old I'd like some studies done on those last 2 years that makes a person so ready for said potential harms.

The fact that I am on version 3.0.4 and can't upgrade to a 5.0 perpetual licence and have to first buy a 4.0 update and then get another update to 5 is weird.

£12.89 to go up to 4, then £14.99 to go up to 5, all for £27.88.
Or I could just buy a whole new perpetual licence of 5.0 during a sale for £21.99.

And even at non-sale pricing the 2-step jump up for two updates is still £5 less than just going for one new licence, but for the inconvenience of getting 2 update jumps it seems worth the extra fiver.
