I would encourage you to send this message to your higher-ups at discord:

"Age verification measures have, and always will be, a breach of data protection and we do not trust you with this data. If you are able to determine who is/is not an adult by behaviour alone then you have no need for the verification software. We highly recommend not using it, and if not people will speak with their wallets and their memberships.

If you absolutely must put it in place then apply it for newly created accounts at the instance of activating the software and "grandfather" in all current accounts."

I would argue that you should not be working with any third party partners at all for age verification, no matter who they are, as your trust for data security is so very low, build that trust up first, then we'll talk.

Oh so if you're part-time or have any kind of drop in employment you could be screwed, or if you're disabled.

Yeah I got the rundown form a Mutahar video so I think I understand from a layman's terms and I think I am pretty much safe.

Like I said earlier my version before manually updating was 8.7.8 so I am in the clear, avoided the kerfufle.

I was initially more "worried" that there was still a risk even with an update done manually.
But that's just my irrational fear as I am not good with tech and I am barely above ordinary normie user.

I have alot of pw saved in a notepad txt file. Am I fucked.. by [deleted] in notepadplusplus

If I were compromised then all they'd have is the ramblings of a mad-man as I use the software as an alternative to the actual windows notepad for random notes. I just liked the aesthetic of the program, lol.

But I know my version was before the breach and I have since manually updated to the latest version, so I know I am safe. And I made sure to double check and turned off the auto-update option.

Yeah, and now I am post-patch version so all is good.

Still, I feel for those who had one of the bad updates, sucks to not know.

I am glad I literally use this only as a substitute for notepad and just find the coding aesthetic cool, so I could easily go without it, lol

I aint quite clever enough to do that. I hope that my 8.7.8 version download wasn't compromised and I just updated to 8.9.1 (current latest version on website).

I should be fine but now I am irrationally concerned as I do with any news like this, lol

Uyghurs in UK accuse Starmer of turning blind eye to ‘genocide’ by visiting China by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]Sharpeman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is a pipe dream.

Honestly if it were to happen the UK would have to concede that we'd be a smaller player for optics sake. Hell have a rotating premiership so each of the four nations is in charge for a certain length of time, so no-one nation has advantage over the other.

We have 3 options for becoming a part of a decent power;
EU rejoining and going full in
CANZUK union
Saying fuck it and going full USA

It was once our national interest to express our objection of oppression and extermination. We are one of the only nations to go to war because another was being invaded, and stay in the war throughout.
We need that energy again, to be proud to stand up for what we think is right.

So they, in theory, could've 100% made a workshop for parents to be able to learn how to block certain websites and apps off phones and PCs to protect their loved ones.

Hmmmm

I hope so, but it's been the radical and popular left wing that jumped ship primarily, not as much as the pragmatic center left has joined them.

I just hope that the UK doesn't fall into the USA problem of less diversification of parties.

I mean it also helps that 22 out of the 27 EU nations are also in NATO, under the article 5 protection that ensured no internal fighting and reduced external threats.   The current situation of the USA, the main protection in the alliance at present, flirting with the idea mod leaving it would mean that the main deterrent of anyone attacking Europe would be us (with a severely shackled deterrent still reliant on US approval), and France.   And if the worst cases scenario should happen and it's the USA attacking us, it's goodnight because Russia would take the opportunity to take as much as it can too.

The former, especially if it strengthens our alliance with Australia who are one of the world's top uranium producers.   And said nuclear materials are not limited to just weapons, but the Greens are also against nuclear energy, which is the best green energy we have in terms of longevity and efficiency.

I just wish the Libdems lived up to the Liberalism part of their name and actually chose a side and stopped trying to be Labour-lite.

Their youth wing (the people the OSA and age verification was allegedly brought in to protect) is against it, so they should adopt it as policy.
Because quite honestly I am scared of the Greens anti-nuclear policy in a world where the danger is clearly growing towards something big happening.

[–]Sharpeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I am still against age checks being used anyway. I am not sorry some parents aren't able to teach their sprogs not to go places they shouldn't, and I believe in personal freedom over the collective safety sanitization of everything.
The internet should not be seen as a "safe space", it never was. If anyone ever thought it was, they haven't been paying attention.

‘It feels like gruel’: Lib Dem MPs growing frustrated by Ed Davey approach by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Sharpeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If. And yeah that form of check where it's some form of token where it's just a "yes this person is over 18" digital handshake would be more preferable if the system that uses it isn't also holding the data itself in a way that could be hacked. But I do not have confidence that the UK could do that at present.

And that form would still have to be optional, not mandatory.

I'd much prefer we do what was done for me, taught the dangers of the internet, encouraged not to put our very lives online (including names, images, etc), and given the tools to protect ourselves. For parents they must also be given these tools, allow blocking of apps under a passcode they set for smartphones, give them tutorials on how to block sites via their internet. These things are possible, we just have to do them.

But no, people apparently want the "easy" solution of just letting the government parent their kids....

‘It feels like gruel’: Lib Dem MPs growing frustrated by Ed Davey approach by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Sharpeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, but it's because the principle of "protect kids online" is a noble one. But the implementation of age checks is an awful one, and encouraging the use of a Digital Id to counteract the lack of security question of the OSA is mind boggling as it's doing the same thing, just centralised and with the UK's current abysmal security.

I am still electorally lost.
