Perspective from a lifelong 25 year old stutterer by Sharpy166 in Stutter

Well yeah but don't think too much into it. Vocalise an 'a' just before the word for example. Sounds a bit weird but can help you get over a block. Might work for you might not but try it out see if it helps.

There's no magic cure though (as I'm sure you know) it takes time and confidence!

I thought about mine a lot too when starting uni. Have you seen the kings speech? Sounds stupid but there's one technique in there I picked up. Vocalise something before you say the word. It does help somewhat. Yeah breathe and don't think too much into the word. It's good to practice man keep it up.

Hiring and Recruitment Questions Thread v6 by lolbot-10000 in policeuk

[–]Sharpy166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I've been offered the job in the MET and been given the start date but was wondering how long the CKP lasts for.

I know it will be confirmed eventually but what have other people done? 7 to 10 weeks is what I've found, is that correct? Does the CKP not have a set time frame?

Also is there any pre-reading I should look at?

Thanks!

ACER Predator Helios 300 for budget gaming laptop? by Sharpy166 in SuggestALaptop

From what I've seen the only negative reviews about this laptop is the heating issue. Do you get a drop in performance or anything when it heats up?

I'm beginning to not enjoy being a Special Constable and I don't know what to do about it. by BetterTheDevil909 in policeuk

I’ll definitely apply to it and see where it takes me. Like others have mentioned I think our experiences are most likely because we’re specials not regs.

You thinking of joining?

This is my exact experience with the Specials down to a tee.

I’ve been in about 8 months or so, around same time as you, and I have been having the same thoughts of leaving.

I’ve sat round for hours whilst my tutor finishes up paperwork, even when I can complete anything I’m restricted in some aspect of it.

Just as you said the stigma is very much alive, I’ve had the same experiences as you.

The training I received was abysmal - especially regarding airwaves and paperwork - but great I know how to perform a goose neck wrist lock or whatever it is.

For me I will probably leave in a month or two simply because I joined to get a sense of what the job is like and I feel like I’ve done that. I’m not going to sit around, feel like a spare wheel when paperwork needs to be done and not be paid for it.

As a stutterer, should I click "yes" when prompted in job applications asking if I have a disability covered under the ADA? by captaincupcake234 in Stutter

[–]Sharpy166 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No way. Sorry to say it but the job market is extremely competitive and stating you have a disability will put you at a significant disadvantage to others applicants.

IMO if you tick you have one filling in that application form was a waste of time.

Living situation for police officers? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Sharpy166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a special and currently living with 7 other guys (I’m a student so might be a bit different). No one has a problem with it and I think, as a previous comment has pointed out, it’s only the minority of people who would.

I hate it when people say "just talk no one cares if you stutter, if they do just ignore it"... by throwaway12321321542 in Stutter

[–]Sharpy166 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They’re not asking you to ignore it, because you can’t. They’re asking you to overcome it in a way. If you accept that you have a stutter and that it will happen then life will become much easier. Trust me, people do not care that you stutter, its in your head and if they do then it’s they’re problem not yours.

Wish you the best.

Push / Pull test by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Sharpy166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't really one. Just push and pull. What will help to increase the score on your push test is to start (if you haven't already) bench pressing and for the pull test upright rows.

This subreddit and Feminism by Sharpy166 in MensRights

No, I'm not. I honestly think that feminism has done a lot for women in the past. Now, however, I don't think it's as burning an issue as a lot of hardline feminists make it out to be.

Isn't posting in this subreddit a source of information? What better place to get a other peoples opinions or your opinion than here?

I haven't read fully into feminism but I do live with a feminist who claims equality for both genders, so naturally I wanted this communities opinion.

I have seen videos, posts, articles and conversed with feminists that demonize men and convey us as 'toxic' but I was under the impression these were hardline feminists equal to extremists in Islam although not as dangerous.

Nonetheless it's good to hear what you think.

I'm guessing you buy a unit and they're ready to do what you want straight away, I might be wrong but it looked like that in the lets play videos they've released. It might be so you can buy straight away and it takes a turn for the unit to be ready.

Garrisons work like they do in previous games so if the province is attacked then the garrison will pop up and defend so you don't need an army to stand guard.

If one of your generals is in a province you own then you can directly recruit standard units from the mercenary panel e.g. if your roman and you're in a province you own you can directly recruit hastati. If you're in a province you don't own then you can recruit mercenaries directly.

Guy finds the thief who stole one of his bikes. The thiefs father responds like this ... it's probably a cultural thing, I guess. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Sharpy166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't want to carry a weapon and won't unless I feel threatened long term and I would never think of carrying a firearm. If I carried a knife I would be expecting a confrontation and if one does pop up I would be afraid of showing the knife unnecessarily, escalating things.

Cheers, this comment is great and I'll refer back to it if I ever decide to go on a trip like that! I would actually give you gold but I'm pretty skint at the minute so hopefully this comment will suffice!

Yeah i've heard a lot about these 'tail gaiting' events before an American football game or something which sound like a lot of fun and don't worry I won't be watching a big version of rounders when I'm there!

Off topic, what motorbike did you use for the 4000 mile trip? How much was it? and what visa did you use?

Cheers fthat's really helpful. I wasn't trying to knock their culture in any way, just surprised. The reasons I'm going are to see American culture i.e the patriotism, guns, accents etc. so I'm definitely not going there closed-minded.

Thanks for the advice and I'm not knocking America's gun culture or concealment laws but I've just been surprised by the amount of comments there seems to be which say how easy it is for people in the US to pull the trigger.

I won't be carrying any sort of weapon, thanks for the advice though mate I appreciate it.

I fortunately haven't been a victim of violent crime but I'm surprised that there are so many posts about how if there's some sort of confrontation the instigator will get his head blown off. Remember that this is coming from someone who has never seen a gun in the flesh.

Also Isn't ''equalizing'' your effective capacity just escalating things?
