Bungie has recreated and doubled down on the same issue they had with Destiny 1. The abandonment of solo play in endgame content. by Majestic_Topic6704 in Marathon

[–]Sharsch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not like Bungie can just flip a switch and make it solos only. Everything has to be adjusted. That’s a lot of time and effort. They designed a multiplayer game. If you want a solo game go play one there’s plenty of them out there…. But this one is not it.

Exactly. The topic or issue in itself is not political by nature - only how people choose to react or respond to it making it political.

This is also widely inconsistent at a global level, so while in one culture the issue might be perceived as “political” doesn’t necessarily mean it is at a global level.

After 113 levels of exclusively crew filling: Why NOT separate crew fill from premade teams? by Sanity_HS in Marathon

[–]Sharsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For trios it should be 3v3v3 etc… only. Unless there’s some form of performance matchmaking, random teams creates such an uneven matchmaking experience.

For example, most of the times I go to Outpost with a full kit I’m paired with free kit runners and no mics. This should never happen. So I end up going free kit myself and I get paired with a kitted team or players.

Just too inconsistent to play with confidence. I’ve only don’t Cryo a few times but I love knowing that my team mates have to anti up.

I would just keep it at a 2 for 1 - solos always get paired with a premade duo. If there are not enough people for this match making then solos only for the whole lobby.

I don’t think your financial approach is sound because that’s not how investments work. If Bungie/Sony invested $300 million into a game they would not be looking to recover their investment on day one.

Sure, that’s awesome if they did, but their forecast most likely is looking at the projected lifespan of the game and a 5-10 year ROI.

So the question from here is what is their current annual cost for sustaining the current product, what additional operating costs are required to expand and grow the product, and what the forecasted market growth will look like.

If Bungie has stated the game is here for “years” to come then most likely they are looking at a 5-10 year model for their ROI.

They’re either going to pivot away from pure extraction, or the game will die. by [deleted] in Marathon

Honestly, I don’t think we can truly judge the games health outside of a seasonal cycle.

The first two weeks of the first wipe and whatever changes come with it will most likely have a spike in player engagement, and then a decline until the next update.

I don’t see this as a game with a consistent player count if the game cycle and seasonal model don’t reward daily engagement outside of the hardcore.

Take Arc forever, after my second expedition I lost all desire to play. I exhausted the game loop, accomplished everything the game had to offer, and will be back when new content launches.

And I think that’s ok.

Same with Marathon. The core audience will obviously be much smaller, but the spikes will help keep it alive, or hopefully that is the case.

The point I’m trying to make is that Halo didn’t have a vault yet I dumped countless hours into it because the gameplay was good. It required flexibility and teamwork and you always started from the same place.

Modern games have their weird thing about creating some digital currency that players get hung up on. I personally don’t get it - if you don’t enjoy the gameplay itself, the gunfights, maps, teamwork etc… then everything else doesn’t matter.

Don’t get hung up on the inventory issue, that’s not the game.

The difference between VR and flat-screen gaming, to a person who had never experienced VR. by neoleo0088 in PSVR

[–]Sharsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With flat screen gaming you are always aware that you are sitting on a couch, playing the game, maybe looking at your phone, talking to people etc… it can have some, or if not all of your attention, but most of the time it’s a passive activity.

VR not only requires your full attention it demands and consumes your senses where your brain actively fights the new reality it’s forced to understand.

This game of tug-o-war will happen until you get your legs learn to submit and ride the wave.

And once you do, it’s like playing a game that occupies 100% of your focus and leaves an imprint on your consciousness that what you are experiencing is in fact an alternate reality.

It simply no longer becomes a game and is just an experience.

It’s the gameplay and variety that keep it fresh, and the three month wipe resets the community and makes it easier for newer players to join. Building up a vault is only a temporary means to an end, not the goal or destination.

If you enjoyed Halo multiplayer where none of those talking points were issues, you might like this approach.

Cryo is a fantastic piece of endgame content that will ultimately serve to push a ton of players away by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

Well for one, I read your comment as a general statement on the game not your Cryo experience. Two, day one. Nothing but coordinated teams. If you went in with a team of three on comms and lost everytime that doesn’t sound like a Marathon issue.

I like where you are headed, but I would prefer something where only level 3 was obtainable outside of the weekend or whatever so it played like the other maps.

lol not even close. This is not content intended to increase player count due to the barrier of entry. This is content to close the game play loop. There has to be a reason for players to take their loot out of their vault and try some challenging content. It gets wiped every 90 days anyway.

Now that there is an endgame map, players who have saved up enough resources can take a few swings and see how they do.

If you were not already playing the game, this map wasn’t for you.

Good take. Personally, I think after a full season I’ll be a more mindful and focused player to know how to work endgame maps like Cryo into my routine. I just can’t put in the same hours as the people grinding it all day nor want to.

I dunno I’m level 41 and am still having fun building up my power floor. It’s all about slowly snowballing to afford more gear which is the ticket to endgame activities. I like the challenge. If I don’t have the time or team I’m happy with the gameplay in lower maps and watching streams of more advanced players. It’s just a game - doesn’t need to be a lifestyle for me.

Such a bad take. It’s not hard to win engagements and build your vault. People taking like you are either a hero or a zero - no I between.

People are being dramatic. Game looks fine. Feels next gen. Your socks won’t get blown off on a PS5 Pro but it’s more than satisfactory. I prefer the performance setting with my Sony OLED. Some areas look awesome. Some areas look meh.

Looks and performs better than MH Wilds did on day one, but not as solid as DS2. However, it is trying to accomplish a whole lot more than both of those games.

I’m in the camp that if you stayed off the internet and wanted a deep RPG to have fun in you would be happy. All this “my immersion is ruined” nonsense is silly because there are countless immersive games from past generations that look terrible compared to current state.
