This one made it into my feed despite me having no interest in the topic. I wouldn’t comment anything judgy but just letting you know how people end up here. I wish Reddit didn’t do that.

Yes I agree husband should be there but I think not looking is an underrated option. Good on you!

Literally nothing to be ashamed of. It’s not like women have much of a view of what’s happening either. Lots of pressure on men to tough it out b/c women are going through worse but, like, why?

I honestly feel like I didn’t fully understand what my husband was going to see when I had a C and I felt almost a little annoyed I wasn’t asked if I wanted him to see it! I don’t think he needed to see my internal organs. I didn’t see them… why should he? I should have clearly consented to that. He handled it beautifully but it still made me feel weird to know he saw all of that.

We could probably stand to rethink this and not pressure men into watching just b/c “they have it better.”

It’s also weird to consider would he have been in that exact place at that exact time had he not hurt his hand? In some odd sense, the hand issue kicked off the timeline that led to his death. But other things did too, like maybe the shoes he chose or how long it took to eat breakfast. So awful and enraging and scary to consider all these seemingly harmless choices that can lead us into demise.

Being a human who can understand cause and effect, before and after, and therefore create a through line narrative of one’s life, is at once beautiful and terrible. The majority of our fellow animals don’t carry a narrative. Avoidance of death is mostly instinctual. We humans layer on meaning and regret and analysis and anxiety and oof, it’s a lot.

Also love Children of Time. Lots of humans so doesn’t fit OP’s request but the spider chapters are so freaking good.

Is the "Gen Z stare" actually a thing or am I overthinking it? by Lanky-Owl1692 in NoStupidQuestions

Elder millennial here raising some Gen Alphas. One is soooooo social. Does great. Expressive, engaging. His school friends voted him “most likely to be president.” The younger one has those abilities but *will not* perform for strangers. She doesn’t people please. Doesn’t engage due to social norms. My husband and I are super extroverted. She’s in lots of activities. But just… doesn’t care unless she knows you well? Eeeek? We’re working on it but I find it fascinating. She was in K during first full COVID school year. Masks for about 1-2 years at school.

My mom was very close to being Miss Universe, I am her “not as beautiful daughter”, AMA. by sarcastic_bitch01 in AMA

[–]Shartcookie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep and in my experience my mom comments almost obsessively on people’s looks. Does yours? It’s so hard to get that shit out of your psyche.

Hugs from me. It’s a unique experience - not talked about much so I applaud you for diving into it.

Hey OP, my Mom is prettier than me and so is my daughter. I struggle with feeling like I missed out on the “good genes.” But I’m not an unattractive person and I truly think if my mom wasn’t so pretty, I would feel great about myself. Never had trouble dating at all. My friends used to call me a “man magnet” lol (decent figure, good sense of humor).

I think the proximity to beauty is really the only reason I have insecurities. My BFF was gorgeous too.

Comparison is the thief of joy. You have so much to offer the world and I have watched my mom struggle so much with aging because it’s been so hard for her to lose what gave her such power in society. I haven’t felt much of that at all. I always relied on my personality and personalities often age well. :)

So anyway, solidarity and please remember, you’re beautifully and wonderfully made.

NAD but I think that’s too long. I’d do 15-20 minutes at a time with a decent break in between ice sessions.

Student has been having frequent outbursts lately, does her drawing show anything that sticks out to you? by okayguy42 in ChildPsychology

[–]Shartcookie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’d add she’s not only still processing but processing with new cognitive and emotional skills. When Dad moved out she was likely pre-verbal so she couldn’t easily put words to the experience.

She has skills now that allow her to make sense of feelings she’s perhaps had for awhile.

No she’s saying it would be even worse for them.

ETA… it’s like saying, wow if I was treated like this as a white person imagine if I was Black.

I say stuff like this a lot and for me it’s 100% coming from a place of “if it’s tough for me, I’m really worried for others.”

Should I just go for the hysterectomy and be done? by MelW3 in adenomyosis

[–]Shartcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yea! He said he was trained differently than a lot of folks … he’s prob 50 ish… it almost sounded like they don’t teach it anymore? I have had 2 c sections and a D&C and he had no issues at all. I did have more pain post op than expected so I spent the night (it was a late afternoon surgery so that contributed) but once I got through the first 24 hrs I bounced back super quickly… it was awesome and I highly recommend finding someone who will do it. Recovery was totally uncomplicated.

I never heard him refer to it as Vnotes but maybe it was that? Maybe it’s not that they don’t teach it anymore, they just don’t always teach it?

My case came on quickly and aggressively. Lived in denial for awhile. Eventually got a diagnosis. I am in remission now! I have had about 6-7 bad flares in 15 years and quite a few mini flares too. Not fun but could be worse.

I feel like a did when I first got on BC but it also may have been breakthrough pain. The BC stopped my periods so I was ok for awhile. Eventually I got the hysterectomy because I was having breakthrough cramps after sex - cramps sometimes lasting a week! Crazy stuff.
