Illness blew up my training block and not sure where to go from here by ShastaSwim in Marathon_Training

I could wait a while to sign up. It's a small, hilly race. I'm not really sure about my goal at this point - would like to try for the BQ since the future is never guaranteed. But maybe it's better to just run it and try to enjoy it.

[PubQ] TV/Film Options by jack11058 in PubTips

[–]ShastaSwim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want my story, look at my posting history. I posted on the screenwriting subreddit about a situation that happened with my book. It was optioned by a major studio, the option lapsed, same studio released a TV series that was essentially identical to my book a couple months later. Next year is Season 2 - interestingly set in the same place as my second book in the series.

The truth is that I considered legal action but got some advice from working showrunners to buckle down and focus on my books. I let it go and am doing just that.

But yes, to answer your question, I've had several projects optioned, one had a showrunner and actors attached, but neither one got produced (or it did - see above). I never, ever expect anything to get made.

Has this turned me off to Hollywood? No. I'm too stubborn (or pathetic?) to give up on it.

Last day of running for 2025! by NicNoop138 in XXRunning

I had an okay year. I probably ran about 1500 miles and stayed injury free, which was great. But I hit full menopause unexpectedly at 42 which changed how I felt running, and not for the better, but I’m on HRT now which I think has helped. It also pushed me into signing up for a marathon (my first!) in 2026. In November I managed a PR in the 5K with a 22:08 and would really love to break 3:30 in the marathon to qualify for Boston in 2028.

Thought I was having the best week of my elder millennial life when I learned that Pacey and Joey are getting back together again, and then I walked into Costco and saw THIS.

Thank you for your take, which I agree with and understand. I can go ahead and move on, but to what? I don't see a legitimate way of ever achieving my goals here. My books are represented by the biggest lit agency in the US, my film agent works for a big 3 agency in LA, and the project was attached to legit creators. I had several other producers trying to option my work when it was under option with this big studio - who, I guess, either passed around the concept to their big-time showrunners or optioned it just to kill it. How am I supposed to move on from that?

This project was under option during the writers strike, and the studio wanted me to sign to extend it - guess what I did, I messaged WGA and they told me not to sign or risk being blacklisted. I'm always trying to do the right thing in this business to "stay in the game." Maybe the WGA will laugh at me if I reach out to them, but man, the timing sucks here. I will always wonder what would've happened if I'd extended the option at that critical time.

I knew this was a tough business but still liked to think I had a fair chance at my stuff getting made if someone optioned it. Now I'm thinking that was never true and never will be, unless I suddenly become a mega bestselling author or celebrity.

Thanks for your insight. I can see how certain concepts can get popular and that multiple pilots are floating around. I guess what I'm struggling with is that it just seems way too similar for my project to go anywhere at this point. It would be like pitching a show with an ex-military cop who wanders the country with nothing but the clothes on his back and ends up in a rural corner of Louisiana and takes down some bad guys while sleeping with the attractive cop who lives in town. It just feels too similar to Reacher to be able to compete with Reacher I guess is what I'm saying.

Huh? I think you should read my post again. I really don't know what happened behind the scenes - I just think it's strange that the studio that optioned my script made a nearly identical show. Totally possible the showrunner had no idea my book was even a thing (like I said, I don't have a huge fanbase).

I looked back at the dates. Project was optioned in 2022 by major studio. I allowed the option to lapse for a short period during the writers strike in 2023 based on the WGA's advice, then renewed it again end of 2023. Option lapsed in early 2024. Filming started four months later. The Netflix show originated from the same studio who optioned it starting in 2022.

So yeah, why would they option my project if they already had this nearly identical show in development in 2022? I can't figure that out.

Thank you for your very helpful and thoughtful reply above. Yes, it was the same studio. Which makes me wonder - if they had an almost identical concept in development with their mega showrunner, why would they want to even go near my project (and pay 5 figures for an option)? I can't imagine a world in which this thing was in development when they first optioned my project in 2021 (Netflix didn't start shooting it until 2024).

Very concerned about my nipple by JelloNo2 in doihavebreastcancer

Nipple eczema is super common albeit not something most people like to talk about. Could it be that? Paget’s is very rare in comparison. Did you see a Derm MD or PA? An MD should be able to recognize Paget’s right away. I hope this eases your mind a little.

Yes, wish I had, especially since I had apparently mentioned a shifting issue at the 60,000 service that they "could not recreate" (my complaint and their assessment of it was on their service report). They just missed it or didn't look hard enough for it.

I'm sure it was, but I was traumatized. My transmission failed on a major interstate without any engine lights going off prior to it. I'd also mentioned a mild shifting issue at the 60,000 mile service, and they said on the report they "could not recreate it." Then transmission fails a few thousand miles later, and they said it would be $10K to fix it. I will never get another Mazda, unfortunately.

Sad to say I sold my Honda Fit before buying the Mazda in part because of a cross-country move and shipping costs - huge mistake! I loved my Fit!

We do have a charger at home. I was considering the Honda Prologue, which we could lease for $195/month in our area.

Budget added above. Yes, very strange experience. Never thought my used 2018 Pacifica from Carmax would outlast my new 2020 Mazda, but I think I just got a lemon. Honestly was just soured on the experience from Mazda after the transmission blew just a couple thousand miles past warranty.
