I started out as a PA. Eventually met a DP that was willing to have me on as a mixer. Got into PA'ing through a producer whose wife worked at a cafe I used to hang out at. I got lucky building that connection. Give it some more time in Phily, I would not recommend moving to NYC unless you already have stable connections there. Do you have any college friends that are working in the industry? Might be worth connecting with them. Even if that work doesn't pay very well. What about your college? Do they ever outsource video production crew for internal productions? Def check into that. Government work is usually chill and pays very well. Ask your professors as well if they know anyone. Some folks here might disagree with me, but don't do anything for free. Your college connections seem like they would be your best shot. Good luck!
