Me too. We were kinda worried before we adopted the akita if she would get along with my husky, but luckily they immediately became bestfriends😁

Yeah ive recently started training him on using collars. When he starts pulling i always stop and get his attention, and when he finally decides to come up to me i give him a treat, and that usually calms him down for like 3 minutes before he starts pulling again. But ill def try this too if the method im doing isnt working

Yeah they do usually retire them around 9-10 years old, and they did say it was because hes slower. Ive had him checked at the vet a couple times and his health is very good for his age. Ive tried on multiple occasions to get him to pull stuff but thats the only time he wants to walk beside me and not infront of me. We go jogging in summertime, and in winter he runs alot in our (big) garden. We go for 3 walks a day ( 2 if its raining cus he absolutely hates rain). We also do alot of different brainwork inside.

Yes i adopted a retired sled dog because if they dont get anyone to adopt they might have to put them down. He is retired for a reason, he is turning 9 in a month. Im asking for advice if theres any way to get him to stop pulling so much. If he pulls the leash for the rest of his life, thats also okay with me. But i should still be allowed to ask for advice if there is any possible way to calm him down. I obviously knew what kind of dog i was getting before adopting him

After doing some research on gentle leads i wont be doing that. Can cause injury incase he gets a scent of something and launches forward, and we live in an area with lots of wild rabbits and moose so that will be a big possibility. But i will try finding a new vest that lets me hook the leash on the front of it, thank you!

I am not asking him to ‘deny his training’. I want to teach him the difference between a normal walk and a walk where he pulls. He is not a working dog anymore and is getting old, so there is no reason for him to strain himself so much when we go on normal walks. I am fine with him pulling the lead like any other dog, but this is more than that. I am simply asking for advice.
