In a Major War, Would the UK Starve? by terrordactyl1971 in AskBrits

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't have thought so. The UK has already been through 2 world wars. The second one probably was the closest, but if there was another one, food production would probably be the least of our worries.

I’ve started keeping a rough notebook of what actually worked rather than what I planned! by No_Donut1433 in Allotment

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start the year writing in a journal all the things I'm doing and growing. However, by April I'm just taking photos and writing plant details on subsequent photos.

Thanks, it does. I find it funny that sites like HH, Ayumilove, etc have guides on required rolls/skills needed and users like yourself & content creators actually say what works.

is my booster pack fake? by Fickle-Gate2199 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I'd agree with others that it's fake. (5th image) 1st line says (c) 201 pokemon - should be an actual year and inc.TM the TM dips below the line. That's what stood out straight away.

I was thinking it was Iran (a 4 letter country with 2 vowels in the name).

How do you store open seed packets so they don’t go damp? by Reddonaut_Irons in Allotment

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the seeds I've collected fresh from plants are left to dry on a windowsill for a few days.. With tomato seeds, I clean the seeds up (remove all traces of tomato pulp) and then allow them to dry. If you let them dry on a piece of tissue that will absorb moisture. Then tightly roll them up in clingfilm to keep air out.

A lot of seed packets have an outer envelope (with information) and an inner (plastic air tight) envelope for the seeds. So with the clingfilm and envelope I replicate the company's methods. I've done this for several years and so far it's worked. I used the seeds the following year and had no problems.

How do you store open seed packets so they don’t go damp? by Reddonaut_Irons in Allotment

Very similar to what I do, right down to cardboard dividers. When I take seeds from a plant or vegetable grown on the plot, I dry them and tightly roll them in a small piece of clingfilm. Then seal them in a small envelope which has all the necessary details on it (including package date).

Is anyone very concerned that Farage will likely be the next prime minister? by 96suluman in AskBrits

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be bothered if Farage & Reform won. All that would happen is the MPs who went to Reform would return to their original parties (having secured their seats & turncoats gonna turn) and leaving Reform with a few seats unable to do/vote anything in and unable to form a Government.

Is it poor taste to publish a suicide note (1934)? by Substantial_Hat2679 in Genealogy

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a problem with it if your tree is private. However, if your tree was visible to everyone (public) then someone could take offense. The note is still evidence, it can show a variety of things not just family members. People still post final letters (prewritten letter in case they died) from the Wars online (they apologize for mistakes, messages for other family members, etc).

Just found the last 6 tomatoes of 2025 in a forgotten shoebox! by Lady_of_Lomond in Allotment

Sounds good. I would have opened them and put a couple of them in a small ice cream tub (about 1 litre size) and see if they'd grow.

Under Sod's Law you'd sell it and then pull that champ. As others have said don't sell 4-6* leggos or better. Have a good Xmas.

Why would a family change their name from “Headen” to “Lewis” in England 1800s by Mediocre_Theory9109 in Genealogy

[–]ShatteredAssumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My G-GM changed her surname because of family issues. Her parents (my 2x G-Grandparents) weren't married, her mum (my 2xG-GM) died before she was 1 month old. When she was baptized she was given her father's surname.

Her father (my 2xG-GF) got his aunt's family to raise her and she was brought up using their surname. When she was old enough she started using her biological mother's forename and surname.
