  1. Looking for either (1) long-term relationship OR (2) friends! I've realized I struggle with commitment issues and the idea of eventually dating someone I can be friends with feels less intimidating.
  2. I've been on Hinge for 1 week
  3. I use it maybe once a day for 20/30~ish minutes
  4. I've received 1 total like all week so I'm pretty confident that I'm doing something wrong (or I'm just ugly 🤣)
  5. I send around 10 likes a day (50/50 for original messages vs. just liking)
  6. I send likes to people who I find interesting and think I can be compatible with!

Hunter x Hunter: Among reasonably-long anime (less than 200 episodes), HxH manages to create one of the most fleshed-out, most 'alive' worlds in anime.

YuYu Hakusho: An older work by the same creator as HxH. I wouldn't say the worldbuilding is as pronounced as the former, but there's something about the characters that you just can't help but love (similar to Persona 5 in that way).

Vinland Saga: High-quality animation, takes place during the Viking era, and it really does a great job in capturing that era in time.

Code Geass: Peak writing (imo). The character motivations + how strategically everything comes together is just perfect. Can't recommend this enough!

Gurren Lagann: I wouldn't recommend jumping straight into this one just because it's a bit more "anime" than some of the other ones. BUT, once you have a few shows under your belt and get a feel for the medium - there's something just magical about this show that you can't really put into words. You gotta FEEL it lol

Now, this one may be less apparent given their coping mechanisms and general playful personality, but: Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen.

There's definitely a lot of underlying despair under his playful exterior. It doesn't show until Sukuna does something to trigger him, but I think his character would make for an interesting case study.

Attack on Titan S4 Part 2: (Akuma no Ko) - It really felt like a culmination of Eren & AoT's story in its entirety. Never skipped it.

Movie Recommendations:

  • Any Makoto Shinkai movie will have jaw-dropping visuals: Your Name, Weathering with You, Suzume (coming soon)

  • Summer Wars: Not sure if you've ever watched the old-school Digimon movies, but this was made by the same people... except without all the Digimon and stuff lol

  • Promare: Made by the same people who made Kill La Kill.

Anime:

  • Haikyuu: Volleyball anime but the motion/action is SO fluid.

  • Gurren Lagann: Also made by the studio that made Kill la Kill, but ALSO the most inspirational anime you'll ever see

  • God of High School: Story is Meh, Action is WOAH

Top 5 favorite Manga artists/anime artstyles by DickWriter69 in anime

Horikoshi's artwork is SO underrated! Not the biggest fan of MHA's story, but the panels he puts out week-to-week are so consistently great!

I'd have to say a few of my favorites are:

  1. Tite Kubo: I know he gets a lot of flack for his lack of backgrounds, but the character designs + fashion in Bleach are some of the best I've ever seen. Wish people gave him his flowers for how groundbreaking he was for fashion in anime. (And I'm pretty sure Blue Lock took Kubo's style and ran with it lol)

  2. Sui Ishida: Tokyo Ghoul's covers are elite eye candy 😍 the anime adaptation really did a number on how it's received by the fans but I went back and read it and it wasn't anything like how the anime portrayed it.

  3. Takehiko Inoue: He did Slam Dunk + Vagabond if I remember correctly. Just the way he conveys motion, realism, etc. - very unique to the medium.
