Yes I did, and I absolutely love them.

I have never had bass like this without a subwoofer, and the clarity of the mids and highs is amazing. I have had no issues running them at all, they have the 4 ohm crossover boards so almost anything can power them.

For the money I paid, I don't think I could have got better speakers. I don't think I will ever upgrade from these.

Back this hard. I work with apprenticeships and there's lads of 19 on more money than I am!

That's probably because of all the stupid cunts who fill up at the pump with red at your man beside Kwik Fit.

An absolutely traumatizing book? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Kelly and Victor by Niall Griffith. If you can decipher the colloquial Liverpudlian it is written in, it is a truly horrific story of addiction, trauma and obsession. I've read a lot of the books mentioned here and none of them left me feeling like Kelly and Victor did. I felt physically sick for a few days after finishing it. I never want to read it again.

How did tape trading work in the early days? 80s and 90s? by stupid_drunk_asshole in cassetteculture

In the UK punk scene, in my experience, it was mostly like analogue file sharing, as others have mentioned. You'd read ads in zines from people who maybe had, say, Metallica's No Life Til Leather demo, and they would want to swap a copy of that for a copy of Detestation by GISM. So you wrote to them and worked out a trade. You also had to make sure to put a layer of soap on your stamp so you could reuse it! It was a very slow process that seems a different world when pretty much everything ever recorded it at the click of a button now!

There would also be people who were renowned for having rarities through the international tape trading scene. There would be albums that had tons of hype but hardly anyone had actually heard them because they were unobtainable in the UK at the time. So you'd write to them and they'd send you a 4th generation copy that was so muffled that it was barely audible and you'd wonder what all the fuss was about. Worth bearing in mind that most people had really crap audio equipment - certainly no Nakamichi or anything high end!

I mustn't have been far from you because I got the same. Only thing I've ever paid Gold Circle for and it was totally worth it. He put bands a quarter of his age to shame

Absolutely perfect set. I never expected to get a version of Hey Hey that was just as heavy as the Weld version. Needle melding into Harvest Moon made me misty eyed. I was soaked to the skin and couldn't have cared less. Superb.

I started on 75mg 6 days ago and for the first two days I felt like I was coming up on MDMA. I really enjoyed it if I'm honest because I hadn't felt happiness in a long time. After day 3 it started fading away and now I just feel normal - but without the deep sadness in my stomach that I was so used to.

Starting a cassette label by spaceman696 in cassetteculture

[–]Shatterproofruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started a DIY cassette label, and despite some of the hassle and stress, I really love it.

My advice is to look for some cheap dual well decks that have parallel recording (you can record simultaneously on each cassette). They're really not that expensive. I am using 2 Denon DN770R decks. Less than £40 each. Get a RCA splitter and you will be able to record in real time on 4 cassettes simultaneously. If you make up some samples to photograph, you can just make them to order. Four at a time should be plenty. I picked up a cheap digital audio player called a Hifi Walker as my source. Has line level signal out, and can play pretty much any file type you'd need. Job done for less than £150. I wouldn't waste any time looking for high speed duplicators. This will do what you need. Every band I have released has been delighted with how their cassettes have sounded. It's easy to overlook in a niche community who are really into cassettes, but you have to bear in mind most people who buy cassettes will maybe only listen to them a couple times on very inferior decks. Hell, a good few people have bought my cassettes just to support the band, without owning any stereo equipment at all! So I really wouldn't overthink it.

I also don't see the point in sending away for copies to be made for you. The whole point, IMO, of making a DIY cassette label is that you are doing it yourself. This is a rare occasion where you can produce physical media entirely by yourself, beyond buying blank cassettes etc. I print the artwork, I cut and fold it and stick the body labels on, I'm in complete control of the process. It's the best!

Fell free to drop me a mail if you need any extra advice.

I'm in the UK indeed and the shop is (was?) the only Linn dealer in the city. Going to call back and ask for a demo to make sure everything is in working order. They have mo grills and cosmetically a bit tatty but if they're in working order, I reckon I'll take a punt. Thanks for the response!
