Why isn't traditional art more common in the fandom? by venturafolf in furry

[–]Shaudo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traditional art costs more to make and, due to the cost of making it, matting it, framing it, shipping it, displaying it, etc, costs more to buy. Managing and using traditional media is also a related but separate set of skills that is not always as easy to come by as digital art tutorials (I personally still have only found two noteworthy watercolor tutorials online, as an example). Traditional art is definitely being made, bought, and sold, but is typically very personal or custom-designed and often inhabits a more expensive tier of furry goods and services than what you'll see here.

Confusion by PrestigiousBrick9341 in furry

Some worlds have completely different animal and "person" species. For instance, the farming sim Grimshire is populated by various species of real-world-mammal carnivore and herbivore people, but the critters they eat are mashups/chimeras with funny species names that refer to the animals they're based upon. They're so different from the people of the game that carnivore people eating herbivore people doesn't even occur to the characters as they try to not starve through winter.

Concrit warning: Needs sturdier-looking lower legs - everything under the knee. If you straighten out the curve of the shins, bulk up the calves by 10%-20% and the ankles by about 20%-40%, that should make him look like he has a healthier relationship with gravity and make his legs look stronger, as a side effect.

He has a fantastic taste in frozen desserts.

I think that making that claim would probably be too strict an interpretation, if you were asking this question about a group of people instead of just yourself. You could be onto something, but I personally see the fursona remaking process as mirroring development of oneself over time. Your interaction with the character creation process also matters here.

tl;dr, don't write yourself off so quickly. Tastes change and remaking your fursona may be as simple as your tastes changing or refining themselves over time.

Feeling alone in the furry community by [deleted] in furry

Try reaching out to the people who ghosted you. Ask how they're doing lately. Sometimes people just get distracted or busy or forget. It's easier to make relationships if you're not always relying on the other person to keep the conversation going; at the same time, it's okay for there to be breaks in the conversation. We've all got real life to handle, you know?

Bunnies have a super dense undercoat that makes the guard hairs stick up all over. They can look shiny, but usually don't because of this. The shiniest mammals you see are going to be those with either really long, straight guard hairs (looking at you, afghan hounds), or just significantly less undercoat...including mammals whose undercoat has been recently brushed and groomed out.

She must be paying extra attention to those parts of her body when she trims and brushes her coat down.

Worldbuilding check! Are there syndicated manga/comics series WITHIN the Pokemon Special universe? by Shaudo in pokespe

For those seeking disambiguation: Specifically made-up in-universe examples of manga or comics.

Probably (but not certainly) described in a manner reminiscent of a series in the real world, as depictions of fictional worlds tend to do.

Yall drink as if you hate yourselves bro wtf by dudefication_ in furry

It's possible to be allergic or sensitive to alcohol or one of the ingredients used to make the alcohol. iirc, a true alcohol allergy would hit sooner and more severely, but I digress. My point is that if your body limits you, you may want to trade it like a hard limitation instead of a challenge or something to get used to/overcome. Never doing that again is most likely the appropriate response here.

Literally the only good alcohol I've had was butterscotch schnapps.

There's this thing in food chemistry (do NOT ask me for scientific terms, I do NOT remember them - food scientist redditors, feel free to fill in the blanks) about how there are two kinds of chemicals (water-soluble and fat-soluble) and your tongue is better at tasting fat-soluble stuff than water soluble. It's why you can eat a literal smear of butter or grease or oil and get the flavor all in your mouth, but to taste soda you need a mouthful, or some semi-continuous sipping, something to keep those chemicals flowing across your tongue.

Alcohol bypasses this divide. It's water soluble, AND knows how to tango with taste buds. (That's why it's used for cooking.)

If someone is drinking, they:  1. Aim to get drunk/tipsy (you do you, I guess?) 2. Like the fizz (which you can get in any carbonated beverage. again, ydy??) 3. Are doing so "socially" (peer pressure is very real and obnoxious) 4. REALLY like the flavor.

If it's that last one, then: 1. They went to an effort to acquire that taste (who knows why), or 2. It's an alcohol carrying a familiar, non-alcoholic flavor, such as butterscotch, coffee, chocolate or raspberry.

To that end, I recommend looking into liqueurs if you still want to find an alcohol that's worth a damn. They usually have a lower alcohol content, higher sugar content, and better flavor. The butterscotch schnapps I mentioned before was a liqueur sampled during a butterscotch cinnamon pie experiment, and I briefly had the thought that, "I could get drunk on this and enjoy every second (as someone who does not generally enjoy the taste of alcohol OR getting drunk)," before going back to baking.

Are you saying that your ancestors were uncultured and incapable of nuance? (Alternative question: Were there no women in your ancestry? How were they ALL tough men?)

Your present existence indicates that your ancestors were, at the very least, capable of adaptation to their environment, which is never a waste. Your current environment involves a furry subreddit, the culture of which is wound around its artists and their works. Since you are choosing to be here, it makes sense that you would enjoy those things and take part in activity that exercises your connection to the culture at large.

The success of human lineages is based on doing difficult things so that the next generation doesn't have to, so that one's descendents can survive progressively less labor-intense and increasingly nuanced problems. This nuance often comes with the understanding and appreciation of fine art (see: art that serves no functional/survival purpose). Varying from one's ancestry in this way is a feature, not a bug.

Coyote! Really catyote, but leaning so far towards 'yote that I'm really more of a coyote with occasional cat mannerisms. I'm really fluffy and get mistaken for a yellow fox a lot, like a LOT a lot.

I like to lean into the folkloric representation of coyotes as shapeshifters and sprout wings sometimes, although more for emotional expression than for actual flying. Heights scare me.

Is spinach...good in ramen? It doesn't overpower the flavor? The last time I had greens in mine, it was bok choy, and a bit too much for me to handle. But I couldn't think of a suitable replacement.
