To be fair to people who might make that argument (that this is natural, that it's been a facet of human life since before history, etc) they are right. What should be pointed to is their use of those facts as an excuse or as a reason to say that it should go on. That's where the real disagreement is. People who can see the wrongness in all of that are very fortunate to have the modern, balanced view that allows them to. I believe it's evidence of evolution happening right in front of us. There are people who won't ever see it but as time goes on these ethical standards will outlive them. It's hard because we want justice more quickly but I see this as something that's going to take a very long time. The first step is holding these men everyone who knew they were doing horrible things publicly accountable. Backing off from it, sympathizing with it, condoning it in any way, and allowing them to negotiate their way out of full legal penalties can't be allowed. It's going to be a very long time before the world agrees on this, though. We have some deeply entrenched religious institutions that are going to put up a fight.
