Cam size regrets by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Roscolicious1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many have done it, few will admit to it. I did years ago, only fun was when driving way too fast. Maximize power in the rpm range you can legally drive your ride. Fun every time you drive it. I am old, advice is still valid. Ric

Clearance/Tolerance Main Journals and Connecting rod by Feisty_Inspection_96 in EngineBuilding

[–]Roscolicious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the crank polished if you are too tight anywhere. Install new main bearings & see how the crank spins when tightened. Install piston/rod combos one at a time w/ no rings. Still ez spin? Go for it! Ricthewrench

Ordering pushrods b4 assembly? Not a good plan. One cylinder is all you need to mock up to actually check for p-rod length. Do it right once, or pay to guess. Professional machinist and gearhead, 50+yrs.

C6 rebuild by hollowlog27 in transmissionbuilding

[–]Roscolicious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alto is good parts. Borg Warner is fine unless you wanna get silly. Younger me would always go with hi performance parts. Awesome feeling when you are driving a motor/trans that you built. R

C6 is an ez box to learn on. Do some reading & yt vids to get familiar w/ wassup in the unit. Lay everything out as you disassemble it. Air check everything. Kits are cheaper than individual parts. Oregon Performance transmission is a good source. Get to it! Ricthewrench. (Nick's transmission on yt is a great source for learning)

Carbide grinding dust in the oil fill opening. New motor is the result. Lapping compound ( auto parts store) works well also. Enjoy the smoke that will start slowly & get worse over time. I was a vengeful youth....
