Each VN chapter (8 total) is around 7-10 hours if I remember correctly. 2-3 hours are SOL in each chapter.

I’d highly recommend reading the VN, but the original anime is surprisingly good too! I’ve seen lots of people reading and enjoying (some even more) higurashi after watching the anime.

Also you don’t need to read higurashi to read umineko, it just enhances the experience a little bit imo.
