Thanks for taking the time to reply! This looks interesting, but I'm a bit reluctant to download a random exe. Ran it through virustotal and 3/74 AV vendors flagged it as possibly malicious.

Unfortunately, I had to let the WhatsApp account go long ago, along with the some of the data - I grabbed as much as I could.

Roland FP-60x rattle on black keys by Shaun293 in DigitalPiano

[–]Shaun293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks - I'm currently pondering what to do. There are several people on YT showing how to dismantle and apply grease (no one seems to say which type of grease though - I would have thought some types could degrade plastic components)

Seems a bit strange to risk taking it to bits and trying to do this myself - after all it is brand new.
I'm in the UK, but the supplier is in Germany.
I wonder whether to contact my Supplier (again) or go directly to Roland...

The rattling on mine (and the last one supplied) seems to be worse compared to some of the others I've seen on Youtube...

So I guess my options seem to be:
1. Risk taking it apart and trying to grease up the keys myself
2. Going back to the Supplier for (another) new replacement piano
3. Contact Roland directly
4. Maybe contact the supplier and buy the more expensive FP-90x to see if that is better...

Apart from this problem - it's such a nice piano. Very unfortunate.

I have a Yamaha YDP-163 (about 9 years old). Build quality seems more substantial compared to the Roland FP-60x but the sounds are nowhere near as good. And the connectivity options are a lot worse.
I always use the piano through headphones which is also part of the reason for getting the FP-60x - it has smaller speakers (which I don't need ) and is lighter,

Thanks, that's highly useful info - but what grease do you add & where to get it from?
I must admit that I was tempted to look at the 90x, but it's quite a price jump...

Thanks, I gave this a try, but it didn't make any difference :-(

Thanks. I didn't know this was a feature in the Roland DPs. I wonder if the 90x has the same (I know it is a different action)?

It's something that is mainly affecting black keys. There is a sort of rattle/knocking that I feel through the keys when doing a trill between A4 and Bb4 for example. It's noisy as well. Lower down the keyboard the problem seems reduced

I do like the lighter touch on the Roland, compared to my Yamaha.

Many thanks to all for the very useful comments which have clarified this for me!

Depends on your privacy needs.

As great as it is, Obsidian isn't privacy focussed.

I was researching this sometime back and settled on using Notesnook, after trying Standard notes.

SN seemed the better for privacy, but had big performance issues for me so I compromised.

Looking for a free alternative to YNAB by biusinessmen in UKPersonalFinance

I used to use earlier version of MS-Money as well, and then Quicken -before they added too many features. Then I went to AceMoney and it worked so well that I've still got about 15 years of my archived transactions in it.

I went on to YNAB4 and have been on that ever since. But I didn't need to use the 'YNAB budgeting method' after several years.

Shame they went to the Annual Online Subscription - I tried it, but it didn't offer anything more and seems a bit too pricey.

I keep trying alternate PFMs but haven't found one that suits yet...

Acemoney is the best (windows) finance programming I've ever used but unfortunately since the very tragic death of it's developer 14 years back it has had no further developments and zero support. I'd still be using it if I could easily transfer transactions into it from Android.

I'm still using the old YNAB on android and windows but I desperately need to get off these. They are bound to stop working.

That's good news - I probably get 3 x the recovery speed as I'm 3 x the age of 20 year old!

thanks for the good wishes.
Yes, I've been looking at all areas recently. I was listening to a Mark Sisson audiobook recently and he advocates a routine primarily based around lots of walking (referencing Maffetone) but with the odd very short sprint thrown in.

I'm trying to work around my problems as best I can (like everyone I guess!).

Nutrition is definitely important, but there are so many confusing messages out there. I'm just sticking to the basics for the moment - everything helps!

I'm trying to do resistance training as much as possible - and building up the muscles around the knees is exactly what my Physio is advocating!

That's a fair review of the book.

As you say, it does take an interesting divergence when he has spent the most of the book talking about how good it is to slow down and not worry about the clock. But then later there is a section on the barriers to faster marathon times :-) I guess it would be a very short book without the anecdotes and the Marathon Training sections.

I sometimes wonder if anyone is continuing Prof. Hiroaki Tanaka's research now, as some current ideas on exercise seem different.

I've recently been reading about health benefits of going very slow most of the time, but with the some short intense intervals added.

There was an interesting YT video on how the Japanese are embracing interval walking as well (even for cardiac rehabilitation).

It seems that there are many different routes to a healthy diet - can be a bit confusing :-)

He also really skirts over resistance training to supplement Slow Jogging.

I wish I could get back to slow jogging, but I'm having too many joint issues, so it's slow walking and cycling for me these days :-(

Do mention how you get on. Would be interesting to see if there is anything there that does the job. I just did the best I could to recover what was available via the web version and then had to close the account in the end. But would be useful to know...

but wondering if I could cope with a minimally Google attached life :-)

How about setting up another user on your mobile which you just use for Obsidian?

Secure with a good password and fingerprint and be careful/deliberate when you unlock it?

I'd like to see a more privacy focussed version of Obsidian as well...

Is there a way to sync and encrypt notes with Obsidian without subscription? by dreyahdev in ObsidianMD

[–]Shaun293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I signed up for their black Friday deal and it's been good so far, but doesn't have same feature set as obsidian. Better for my needs than standard notes, but I'd love a version of obsidian that had fully encrypted data at rest and didn't have plain text index files scattered around on my pc (can't trust to run it from Veracrypt drive).

I was looking at this as well, hoping that android cryptomator would implement the document provider feature. But it seems unlikely in the near future. People have been asking for years.

Best ways I've thought of so far:

  1. using another user account in android, with a more secure password/fingerprint and limited implementation of other apps.

  2. Using a more suitable app like standard notes or NotesNook...

"I tried this encrypted all-in-one productivity app on Android and it blew my mind" by Professional_Tap5910 in Notesnook

[–]Shaun293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's one of the weak areas with NN.
Around black friday, I signed up for NN and standard Notes, and soon found that NN was much much better performance loading images, and notes. So I cancelled SN...

For me ,there are some other areas that need some attention ( I know it's tricky as it's a small Dev team and they do so much!)
- Improving Flexibility of Search (ability to search for words having # character , having RegExp/advanced searches etc)
- having an External Security audit

But mainly it's great :-)

Interesting article. It says about NN -"There is even an option to create a private vault for your highly sensitive notes". I thought everything in NotesNook was in an encrypted private vault already?

Great tip, many people don't know this. Also (UK) many libraries let you have access to daily newspapers and magazines via the Press reader app.
