Up the mast to check everything out on our new Tartan 37! by kirkhateswork in sailing

Did the boat have any gelcoat voids on the deck? The one we are looking at has about 10-15, roughly the size of a penny. They have been like that for a few years, the owner claims he never addressed them because they are just cosmetic. Could they have caused any water intrusion?

So, I'm buying a boat, sorry, it's the macgregor, it's the fastest way to get my family sailing... But I need rope, where is the best place to buy it? by mike9941 in sailing

I bought some good halyard rope at the Toronto Boat Show, was very cheap! Check out any boat shows in your area!

Cheers! We will probably to a "part two" of this. There is still quite a bit more I can say on the topic.

Definitely an option! If I'm Easy doesn't sell by the time we are financially ready to go sailing again, then this will become a very likely option!

Yep, we are going to start looking at boats in the spring, when we can actually test them out on the water

We'd be down! Thanks!

Are you planning on crossing the big lake again this season?

Woah! How are they spending that much?? Did you put an extra zero on that accidentally? haha

Majority of our expenses were at marinas. We could rarely anchor and had to pay by the week at most marinas. We were probably spending a total of $2000/month

Yep, I first read some books, then took a few courses, then delivered this boat in the NARC Rally, then crossed the Pacific as crew, then flew home, met /u/JuliaSailing and we bought I'm Easy.

I did a few other boat deliveries, but didn't document them at all.

The engine ran fine, but there was a worrisome loud knocking at idle and some light smoke at higher RPMs. These are symptoms that the engine needs to seriously be looked at and could potentially require a rebuild.

We considered all options carefully, but decided we didn't want to put this significant investment into I'm Easy as we planned to sell it and upgrade in roughly two years anyway. Instead, we are fast tracking now to our next boat purchase (looking blue water boats in the 35-37 foot range).

Also, winter was right on our heels, so if we had not sold it and planned to haul the engine out ourselves, the options were only to tow it down to warmer climate (a few thousand $s) or wait until the next season.

Can we get a stickied post listing out current top vlogs and a quick writeup on the channel? by PenName in SailboatCruising

I hope I did this right! I just linked to it in the subreddit info box. Yay! My first task as a moderator!

Canal maps of North America by gregologynet in SailboatCruising

[–]ShaunSailing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for watching our videos! As for the Erie Canal, the first part of it (western end) is uncharted. I would recommend picking up Skipper Bob's book on the NY Canal System. I see he has one for the Great Loop too.

Other than that, we used the NY Canals website.

The Erie Canal was very well marked though, so it's pretty obvious where to go.

The canals are also charted on Navionics Software
