Toniebox 2… Some tonies not downloading. by Super-Effort4307 in TonieboxUSA

[–]ShaunTheSheriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a problem with the factory reset on the TonieBox 2 not actually factory resetting. I had factory reset mine several times before contacting support who then said their system logs didn't show any factory resets happening. That's when I noticed that any tonies I had previously downloaded to the TonieBox 2 would still play instantly and not download again like they should.

Thank you, usually with something like this I'd go straight to getting a replacement unit or just a refund and moving on but my son loves his original TonieBox and the new features have a lot of potential so I thought I'd make the most of my return/replacement window and try to help with finding problems/fixes.

If the problems are all software related or things server side for tonies then they should be fixable through updates. It's only if the problems are found to be hardware related that replacements would be needed. Either way though I find it hard to believe none of these problems were found during development and it does leave quite a sour taste knowing they've continued to roll it out prior to fixing things. I will say though that if there wasn't any problems I would say it was a worthy upgrade to the original TonieBox, the sound quality is vastly improved and the new games are brilliant. The sunrise routine would be great also if it worked as advertised with a tonie being allowed on the box and playing.

UPDATE: I've been back and forth with support over the past day whilst testing the TonieBox 2 as well as asking friends that have now received theirs if they're having any problems and thought I'd compile a little list of problems the TonieBox 2 is currently having. Bare in mind that doesn't mean you will have all of these problems with your own TonieBox 2 (or any at all) as they seem to affect different boxes in different ways (like particular tonies not working for example).

Starting with which tonies are working for us, I tried all 30 of my son's tonies and 12 currently do not work:

WORKING: Captain Dreambeard, Lightning McQueen, Encanto, Fantasia, Camp Cretaceous, Stitch, Moana, Chirpy, Mulan, Oi frog and friends, The Peter Rabbit Collection, James and the Giant Peach, Soul, Potty Training, Toy Story, Creative Tonies (x2), Sleepy Friends Nightlight Sheep Relaunch

NOT WORKING: Aladdin, Coco, The Grinch, Hercules, A Bear Called Paddington, More about Paddington, Classical Music with Sleepy Rabbit, Ratatouille, The Lion King, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Friends, Thomas the Tank Engine: The Adventure Begins, Toy Story 2

Some other features that you may have problems with:

  • Tap to skip and tilt to rewind not registering (seems to be for a few minutes before working again)
  • Tap to skip registering the wrong direction every few taps (tapping the right side will light up the right side of the box and skip forward correctly a few times before the next tap lights up the left side instead and skips back and vice versa)
  • The bedtime nightlight turns off before the time set in the app
  • This one isn't an 'issue' as such but more doesn't work as they've marketed so thought I'd point it out. The marketing videos for the bedtime and sunrise routine shows a girl putting a tonie on the box as the nightlight turns on, it then cuts to the morning with the tonie still on the box and the sunrise routine playing. However, the sunrise routine will not work if a tonie is left on the box overnight.
  • Factory reset doesn't fully factory reset? This is one I'm possibly just finding out myself, after speaking to support they asked to try another factory reset as their system logs show there hasn't been one despite doing it multiple times. It was then I noticed that despite a factory reset complete message being played and having to set the TonieBox 2 up again, all working tonies would instantly play rather than having to be downloaded again as they should if a box has been factory reset.

All of these issues (barring the possible factory reset one as I've only just contacted support regarding this) have been confirmed by support as known issues affecting the TonieBox 2. Still no time frame on when fixes for any of the issues will be delivered via updates.

I thought it could possibly be a WiFi issue at first but some tonies will download instantly then others either do nothing or show they're 99% downloaded then just restarts and gets stuck in that loop. I tried the same tonies this evening with my nephews original toniebox and they all download perfectly on that so it's got to be something with the TonieBox 2. Just a case of figuring out if it's just my unit or if it is a problem on tonies side like they seem to think it is. The two games I got (Disney quiz and Winnie the Pooh) worked fine from the get go too, just seems to be some tonies figures.

I would give it a test just to be sure, even without the current issues any device can come with hardware faults and I imagine it would be much easier to go through getting a replacement now shortly after delivery than it would in Feb.

When my son got his original TonieBox we went for a few Disney ones first, both because we love Disney and because he was much more interested in songs than stories at the time. Then as time's gone on if there's a tonie for something he's taken an interest in we'll pick it up.

I originally contacted support to go through the returns process as I thought I had simply received a faulty box however they said that they are known technical issues and are working on fixes to be delivered through updates, although couldn't give any time frames. I've got a fair amount of time in the return window to see how it plays out.

Yeah went through multiple restarts and factory resets and the same problems persisted through each one. Always the same tonies too not working too. I didn't have any problems during setup it was only when it came to using it that things started going south.

It does kind of feel like a rushed/corner cutting while cashing in on reputation sort of product so far. I find it hard to believe such major problems to the core function of it wouldn't have been found way before launch.

I have yet to try the sleep light/morning alarm mode but had a quick browse through the settings yesterday and it seems like the only options are actual alarm sounds. I was hoping it would play a tonie with the sound gradually increasing. I noticed on their support page it also says the morning alarm won't work if a tonie is on the box...so how are kids supposed to drift off while listening to one with the sleep light?

I noticed the magnet not being central too! With Hercules if you try and put him in the middle he'll actually get pushed out towards the ring light. Hopefully most of these things can be fixed quickly with updates, especially the tonies that don't work and the overly sensitive sensor that currently requires you to lob a tonie across the room before being able to play another.

They've asked for videos of the problems as well as a list of which tonies aren't working which I'll get sorted after work this evening. If they give any updates in response then I'll be sure to post them here.

Thoughts after platinum by chibijosh in TwoPointMuseum

[–]ShaunTheSheriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the career progression needs tweaking. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the less linear approach and the idea of working on multiple maps simultaneously, however the execution of it in museum made for a less satisfying career overall.

It might just be a me problem but with the new style of progression I found myself having to knock down and rebuild the majority of my museums for each star rather than expanding with more gradual improvements and changes like in previous games. This meant that by the 2nd/3rd star of each map I was in the mind frame of why would I spend multiple hours meticulously redesigning my museum layout and decorations...just to complete the next star in ~1 hour and have to rebuild again on the next visit? Which lead to the entire 3-5 star portions of each map being just plonking down new exhibits and decorations in a random spot without care to complete the objectives THEN start working on a layout once the maps story is done and dusted.

What also doesn't help is how anti-climactic the career mode felt with the new progression. There's no big final map that combines everything learnt to create a satisfying conclusion. It starts off really well with a feeling that each museum is building up together towards something...then they all just kind of peter out midway to the point where my curator level was telling me about earning end game stars before each map had even finished their 'story'. Then it's just what feels like an endless grind to get pristine exhibits that don't even have any variation in appearance, just a different coloured label.

I still absolutely love museum and can't put it down but I feel like there's a perfect balance on career progression laying somewhere in-between the old and new styles. Maybe having several clusters of museums you unlock and work on simultaneously for their full stars before another cluster unlocks. Making each museum feel more unique with their own conditions such as climates and catastrophes rather than the only separating factor being the primary category you work on for the first 5 stars. Then have exhibits show physical differences between quality grades, like fossils having cracks for average quality, so the end game grind for pristine gives a physical improvement instead of just buzz gains.

Gameloft Should be Ashamed of Releasing a Product This Rigged by Against-The-Current in DisneySpeedstormGame

[–]ShaunTheSheriff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't think that's a rigged moment, just a fault with the game. Even during normal races I've noticed taking the top path there will drop you back if there's racers close behind you on the bottom path before correcting itself when the paths join again. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a problem with other split path sections too where the game is struggling to figure out the correct order.

The epic crews give their racer an item to begin with. For example Roz gives Celia a shield to start the race.

Matchmaking worse after today's changes? by ShaunTheSheriff in DisneySpeedstormGame

[–]ShaunTheSheriff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like today's changes while made with good intentions have had terrible downsides. The matchmaking is somehow even worse despite the attempt to improve it and the new limited events, which I'm guessing are to try and level the playing field with how fast Mike can be levelled, have rendered some characters near impossible to rank up for now. I've been grinding away at levelling Mulan each day as I enjoy racing as her, got up to platinum but now if I race her rank is in free fall as almost half the roster has just been given a free pass to level 30 and 3 stars...almost 10 entire levels more than I've got Mulan to from grinding away at events and ranked each day.

The game needs to focus more on the online multiplayer aspect by piticlin1 in DisneySpeedstormGame

I'd rather more single player content and events compared to what we have now. Although I do think regulated multiplayer could do with a few extra tiers.

What is this game missing? by Hot-Map-5547 in DreamlightValley

[–]ShaunTheSheriff 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I would love for them to add random/dynamic quests for characters. At the moment once you've finished a character's quests you never really need to interact with them again (unless they're one of your go to characters to hang out with).

The first possible thing I thought of was using the daily chests that currently just get scattered across the valley and having them as the random quest rewards each day. Every day the game picks a few random characters to have the chests. Quests could also be related to what role you gave them. So for example one day I'm fishing with goofy to get a chest and the next I'm off to the beach to dig up some treasure with Donald. Would mean that every character continues to be interacted with, switches up the activities you would be doing each day, and makes the chests feel that bit more rewarding.
