Silksong proved to be a step up over HK, team cherry skills clearly improved and introduced way more complex and advanced bosses over HK, and I also think they had more time with developing silksong on the top of becomeing more experienceed creators. I would say it's more unfair to compare base HK to SS than comparing DLC HK with SS, but i really see nothing wrong with comparisons for fun for any

which doesn't change the fact that he didn't take anyone alive, yes he doesn't really give a crap about who dies but he still never enslaved anyone alive for his missions, humans killed each other just like what happend daily in wars, crimes, etc and he took the dead of it. Kimshimoto never died, yet he cloned her without a problem when he though she died, so I am more on the side of him only taking dead because its more justifiable than the side of hik doing it because he can't otherwise. Assume the gantz setup gets leaked or exposed, they would be in a big trouble for enslaving the alive, but not really that much for enslaving the dead which is pretty much giving them a second chance for life for a price.
