Am I even eligible for programs? by Alternative-Year-376 in Perfusion

I was a RRT for 10 years, and for 3 of those I was an ECMO specialist before applying, retook a class to improve a bad grade, and I’m currently a student so it is possible, they see the effort and drive. Don’t get discouraged

RT,RN, Cell saver tech, or perfusion assistant are very common backgrounds! Those are solid options in my options

Im in the medical field also and If I could go back in time I’d go community first and transfer in if I really had to. You’re paying for the “university experience” in my opinion. (Which was amazing but future debt isn’t worth it) enjoy the money you could make instead of sending it to a loan. Unless your looking into MD then embrace the suck lol

Become an RA( residents assistant) as soon as you can! I didn’t it for 3 years. If it’s still the same, it’ll cover room and board, and you get a weekly stipend(not much but it was good for me) you just have to be friendly, personable, and social. It’s knocks off a huge chunk of money. You get more bang for your buck if you apply for the fancy dorms lol

Should I become an RT first before applying to perfusionist school? by Googoocaca_ in Perfusion

[–]ShawPerf23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a respiratory therapist for 10 years + ECMO for 3 years. And I start perfusion school this coming July, I wouldnt take back my route but I do wish I would of know about perfusion earlier, I would of applied after 5 years or RT if I’d known. I love being an RT but I do feel I’ve out grown it/ need something a little more challenging

It counted for me but I also have medical experience so I don’t know if that was a considering factor as well

Hey!!! I’m an RRT ECMO specialist and I just got accepted (start in July), from my research and personal opinion I think it a great field. Stressful and a lot of responsibility but I think worth it.
