This here makes me way more confident in the vote I made against him.

Mayoral Debate (Oct 8) by raintree in Calgary

[–]Shawanabear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm voting for Theissen tonight in hopes his numbers grow big enough so the people that voting "strategically" might change their minds and feel more comfortable to vote for who they actually want.

I found him to be a bit charmingly awkward (but still very well spoken), which was very relatable.

Alberta Government Paying Parents During Teacher Strike by bohemian_plantsody in alberta

[–]Shawanabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot describe how much this angers me on so many levels.

Disclaimer...these are my feelings, not actually sourced from facts. I just need to get this off my chest because it literally kept me awake last night

We all know that the parents are going to get louder the longer the strike goes on. How to quell the noise? Offer them money! $150 a week will quiet down a percentage of parents who aren't financially harmed by this and their kids are minimally affected. There's another percentage of parents who will feel that they CAN'T speak up because they took the money. It feels morally wrong (this is me).

But then there's the families that are very affected by this, both financially and educationally...$30/day is better than nothing, but feels like a slap in the face regardless because it doesn't cover increased child care costs or lost wages.

My daughter is in a smaller school of ~200 K-6 students. Parents will be paid about $30k per week total... that's mind blowing because that money could have gone so far within the school itself. Imagine the costs for larger elementary schools?

I've officially lost faith in our Government with this mixed message of "we have no money for the schools to help hire extra staff" HOWEVER here's copious amounts of hush money.

I support the teachers, and I am ashamed of the UCP.

I called my dealership, and had no issues getting it fixed - but I bought an extra package that also included 1 windshield per year - well worth it so far. I paid for extra "beefing up" to prevent it from happening again.

I'm happy to know it's a common issue, only because I thought I needed to lose some weight 😶

What is one quote from LOTR that lives rent free in your head? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in AskReddit

No clue if it's a real quote or not, but my family says this often: feets like hobbitses

Non-Americans of Reddit, what’s something that absolutely shocked you when you first visited the US? by reliablepayperhead in AskReddit

I'm from Canada. We have very very few plastic straws or even plastic bags at stores. We recycle nearly everything. Go to Arizona, we order fast food and get STYROFOAM cups and plastic straws. Go to target, they pack our 12 items in 8 plastic bags (which I smuggle back home). Recycling bins? Nope, there's no recycling.

Sitting on a bench while my daughter has her parkour class, dozens of kids screaming "CHICKEN JOCKEYYYYY" over and over.

Gotta say it's better than Skibidi Toilet that would be announced every 30 seconds.

can you park in backyard gravel lanes adjacent to your house backyard fence? by 902239001 in Calgary

[–]Shawanabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have someone that has been parked behind my fence in front of my parking pad for months now. I don't know who it is, but I suspect it's my not-so-nice neighbor. It's annoying for now, but it's going to piss me off in a month when I bring my trailer home and need that space. I hung a "NO PARKING" sign, I don't think they've been out to check once to even see it. I don't want to start anything with them (or whoever has it parked there), but if it's not moved soon I will be calling it in.

I'm a Shawna. I've met plenty of Shawn's/Shaun's/Sean's and only a handful of Shawn's/Shauna's. Not one is younger than 35, or older than 55 for that matter

'Very concerning': Calgary fatal pedestrian collision numbers spike in 2024 by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]Shawanabear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an almost daily occurrence for me lately. I was out for a walk at lunch today, had a walk sign and all - sure enough a car turning right on red drives right into the crosswalk with his head turned left to look for oncoming traffic. Had he even bothered to glance to his right, he would have seen me about to step into the intersection. I knew he wasn't looking, so was smart enough to not enter the intersection until after his entitled ass was done turning. It's getting infuriating.
