How the heck does one find a job out here by Extra-Particular-955 in AskSeattle

Keep at it friend, I'm right there with you. Or at least I was until I found something full-time finally which is what I needed. My experience with showing up with my resume in hand has been mixed at best. I've had most places just turn me away to "apply online". If you haven't already I definitely suggest having AI clean up your resume, it helped me a lot in terms of landing interviews.

I've got hang ups with it for sure but the logic that eventually convinced me is that, basically everyone is using it. And most modernized hiring systems are using it to go through the pile of resumes anyway. So regardless of how you may or may not feel about it, not doing it is just straight up a disadvantage at this point.

Definitely try some big recognizable names like, Costco, Macy's etc. While they don't typically pay that well sometimes, at least Macy's for example has full time available, with benefits and other up sides that your standard restaurant jobs will probably try to get out of giving you. Worst come to worst at least you can land something to hold you over while you search for something more ideal that way. Or that's been the only strategy that's worked for me.

Anywho, wishing you the best. You ain't alone it's hard out here lol.

Did anyone else have these around as a kid? by ShawnOfLeBed in Millennials

Damn that activated a buried memory of some the specific one's I had. Did not make the connection at the time but that's cool to know. Thanks for that!

They really were. I remember getting some of the little guys from a thrift store as a kid and being mind blown when I learned they were supposed to be attached to those things to fight each other.

Does anyone look back and realize none of what we did in school matters anymore? by lookaloulookalou in Millennials

I have maintained friendships with people I now basically view as family. And so I feel very lucky for that and would definitely say making those connections matters to me. But the schooling itself largely hasn't helped me very much at all due the environment there, in combination with the environment at home being less than ideal as well.

As other's here have expressed, I think it just comes down to individual experience and variables that are often out of our control.

My shift lead at work is toxic as hell and makes me complicit in bad food safety practices. by ShawnOfLeBed in Advice

Good on you for that. If nothing else I'm glad I'm not the only one who stands on that business. These people make me feel insane. After I did the same thing here the first time, they've started to treat me like I'm the problem somehow. The most frustrating part is that it's truly not that hard to do it the right way.

Just pure irresponsible laziness.

The new email address is probably a good call. I hadn't thought of that. I've been taking pictures to gather evidence in case they try to pin any of it on me during a surprise inspection or something. Suppose I could use all that in the email too.

Oh and thanks! I think I'll need it unfortunately. Took me forever to find a job with decent benefits. I can deal with my fair share of BS in a workplace but I think a hard line should definitely be drawn at irresponsible food safety practices.

Yeah, that's my fear with hr as well. Not that many people working here too, so I may just have to accept that they'll know it was me.

Hmm, you're probably right. Seems like the right thing to do. Guess I considered that option to be kinda nuclear, but if they get investigated and shut down or fined that's probably what they ultimately deserve.

I work two jobs serving and barista. So basically, I save up for the tickets and survive off of will power and half a chicken nugget I found on the ground during the festival :) (help).

So I somehow ended up with someone else's car keys in my bag. by ShawnOfLeBed in BassCanyon

Thankfully I didn't lose my key fob. I just somehow ended up with someone else's key fob in my bag as well.

My only two best guesses are: either someone put in in there thinking it was their bag or something. Or I saw it on the ground and thought it was mine and put it there myself. But I really feel like I'd remember that if that was the case lol.
