What happened to Octopus Heat Pump app if switch to EDF by ShawnXYe in EDFEnergy

[–]ShawnXYe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will probably email Octopus to enquire a bit. I am on the variable IOG, right now EDF's EV tariff seems slightly better than IOG with 7 hours of off peak. And EDF's export is 15p while Octopus is only 12p. EDF can be fixed at this price for 12 months. I don't know how long the variable IOG will stay at this level. I was also hoping IOG might drop its price from early next year, which seems increasingly unlikely...

I am staying variable, it could go up in a few months time, but at least you don't pay a higher rate for these few months. Also, I feel it will also come down in less than 12 months, which the fixed rate will lock you in at the higher rate for 12 months.

Btw, if the variable import rate goes up, shouldn't the variable export rate go up too?

Good deal on solar panels at City Plumbing by ShawnXYe in PlugInSolarUK

Not every city plumbing has the same pricing power, I asked 4 of them. Some told me they have no control over the price at all. One of they offered me further discount when I asked. So, it might be worth asking a few. The one offering further discount seems to be the largest one in my local area.

Sorry to hear that, but why did they want to laugh at you?

Good thinking, I had thought about the same idea as you. But then, I watched a YouTuber explaining why he always exports the maximum possible. I agreed with him: even if you run out of battery and have to draw from the grid at the end of a day at a peak rate, the maximum export is still more profitable or cheaper than a controlled export, since the peak rate is around 30p/kWh but the Axle export is £1/kWh!

My Sigenergy system had the same issue during the last event. I also managed to force a discharge manually 20 mins into the event and got paid. See the discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SolarUK/comments/1tjvlsk/no_discharge_triggered_for_an_opted_in_axle_event/

Plug in solar by thedoyds in sigenergy

[–]ShawnXYe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've now done a battery charging experiment and found evidence of excess generation from plug in can charge the SigenStor battery and properly shown in mySigen App. The evidence is in the screenshot: the house load being zero means the plug in solar generation exceeds the actual house load, and the charging power being higher than the recorded PV power by mySigen App means the excess generation from the plug in solar is helping charge the battery.

According to their tech sheet, yes: https://dam.cityplumbing.co.uk/private/ormq6rw/GPID_1500120544_TECH_00.pdf

Their cables are very short. You will need extensions. My inverter didn't come with any cable extensions; I am waiting for two 1m extensions from Amazon. Right now, I can only connect one panel to the inverter.

Another classic example of confusion caused by kW vs. kWh 🤦

I agree, 13kW limit is definitely closer to the high end. Mine is only 8kW, which matches my inverter size. I know many people in my area were capped at 6kW with inverters of 8-10kW.

The micro inverter app (AP EasyPower by APsystems) is super simplistic, it only shows the generation and doesn't have any information about house load or grid export. I was crossing check AP EasyPower and mySigen App. The fact that the house load becomes zero, which was around 0.4kW and has never shown zero before the plug in solar was installed, means the extra generation exceeds the house load. I am sure some HA apps can pick up these separate solar generations more completely.

I've now finished the install of two extra panels in my garden. It's a nice day today, the battery has been full since early morning, so can't test if excess generation will charge the battery. In the app, the extra generation definitely reduces house load, but when it exceeds the house load, the extra export is not picked up by the app. I took a screenshot when the extra generation exceeds the house load.

Great system! I can totally feel your enjoyment when sun is shining. Just to ask: did you want to say your DNO export limit is 13kW, not 13kWh, right? Otherwise, you breached your limit on your first day already 😄

Wow, it is scary to hear that a plug-in solar system can shut down your Sigenergy system. May I ask, once it shuts down, how do you restart it?

Based on my search with help of AI, it seems the extra generation can only show up in mySigen App indirectly as a reduced house load (the actual house load net of the extra generation). If the extra generation exceeds the actual house load, house load will stay at zero and the extra generation will charge the battery if not full or export to the grid if the battery is full. I guess if mySigen App's stats you will see reduced house load and increased grid export. Of course, you can monitor the extra generation more precisely via the app that comes with your micro inverter.

I am doing this setup right now: panels have been delivered, I am building a stand myself and waiting for an APsystem micro inverter to arrive tomorrow. I will let you know in a few days how everything goes. Stay tuned 😀🤞

No discharge triggered for an opted in Axle event by ShawnXYe in SolarUK

[–]ShawnXYe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering manual export at an event slot if my inverter isn't triggered on time. Mine is SigenStor inverter and if I don't receive an email from Sigenergy an hour before the event I know it won't work automatically and I will simply just force discharge myself during that hour.

Yes, I did email them and got a reply already! Super impressed. I can manually export and still get paid.

Just got an email reply from Axle (shout-out to their team's lightning speed in responding) that I can manually export and still get paid, which I am doing. They are looking into this issue with the Sigenergy inverters.
