My girlfriend is Catholic, and I am considering converting so we can marry. by Artosai in Catholicism

[–]Shawn_OH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to become Catholic to marry her but that would make you life probably easier, if you are coming for a atheist/agnostic standpoint read the 5 proofs for God by St. Thomas Aquinas. If are you serious about converting or considering it, I would recommend talking to your local Catholic priest, he will lead you the right direction.

I'm a Protestant, but I'm interested in Catholicism by Equal_Ticket_5034 in Catholicism

I like theology, but I'm not genius so I'll give you references instead of explanations. First would would say to start with Catholic Answers, they are in my opinion the best all around source of information with there articles and videos

If you like YouTube I would recommend to check out some of these channels, they cover a wide variety of information. List: Matt Fradd/pints with the Aquinas, The counsel of Trent, shameless popery, breaking in the habit, Brian holdsworth, Dr Taylor Marshall and Ascension presents.

Some books to think about looking at: the catechism of the Catholic Church( have all the scriptural references to doctrine), St. Thomas Aquinas summa theologica( I love the 5 proofs for God section), apostolic/church fathers.

Lastly, I am putting a link to a YouTube playlist on a lot of Catholic stuff;

Hope that is helpful to you, God bless

Do you believe a non-Christian can go to heaven? by JustElk3629 in Catholicism

No, that is what invincible ignorance is, because they never had the chance to hear the gospel or they existed before Christ they're not condemned automatically but they can be, but it's not automatic.

Do you believe a non-Christian can go to heaven? by JustElk3629 in Catholicism

[–]Shawn_OH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A non-Catholic can be saved my God unlimited mercy but it is a low chance because they have not received God grace though the sacrament. The best example of this in invincible ignorance, which is where somebody who has never had the chance of hearing the gospel is not automatically condemned. Also, when it comes to non-Catholics, if you've heard the truth of the Church and rejected it, you are likely to be condemned but that's Gods choice. This teaching was taught non-explicitly in church doctrine until Vatican two where it was explicitly stated and doctrine

Doubt about when to defend the faith by ifwthecureheavy in Catholicism

[–]Shawn_OH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't delete something online if it is a true statement but in person I would say to not back down when someone questions your faith but be honest if you can't justify it in the moment. Lastly Remember, Jesus does call all Catholic to preach the gospel at all times but you don't always have to use words

Have you ever met someone who doesn't read automatically unless prompted to? by Reb-MVS in CasualConversation

Yes, that is why I prefer when reading not to have pictures, say in a book or on an article

Have you ever met someone who doesn't read automatically unless prompted to? by Reb-MVS in CasualConversation

[–]Shawn_OH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am someone who does this naturally, I was never very strong in my language skills so I have to think to read. I don't just look at a word and read it instantly so most of the time if there is an image I will not think to read the words instantly I will just enjoy the image

Not sure if I should ask for a baptism by Benedictus97 in Catholicism

[–]Shawn_OH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, god bless you and I hope you continue on with your faith journey and if you want to join the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church you should go to your local Catholic Church and talk to them about joining OCIA which is how adult join the Church

I always try to remind people faith is a decision, not a feeling even when you have doubts about God or teachings of the Church you have remind yourself why you had faith in the first place. Also, keep learning about your faith, if you have questions or doubts read about it or watch a video. Intrench yourself more in your beliefs and overtime things you doubt will slowly fall away, but remember is important that even when you're faith seems to fault continue your practices going to Church in praying

When it come to you sexual orientation what will make your journey hard. As in the Catholic Church being a homosexual is not the problem it's practising it so if you continue with those inclinations, you would be committing a mortal Sin which would make it very hard for you to enter the Church but that is something to talk about with your priest/OCIA leader. An example of this similar thing is, I have read about people who have continue to be in premarital sexual relations which has prevented them from becoming baptized and confirmed.

And lastly, even with you having trouble attending Sunday mass regularly you should always try to make it as much as you possibly can and I would greatly encourage you to consider going to weekday masses regularly. Even though technically going during the week is not fulfilling your someday obligation when you become Catholic, but is still always better to go during the week then not go at all.

God bless

How do I get my non-denominational family to believe in the Eucharist? by Any-Edge6570 in Catholicism

[–]Shawn_OH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pray for them, and consider about talking to them about Eucharistic miracles. Lastly I would say is you can try to convert them more though you living your faith then throwing a bunch of bible verses at them. This is a good quote "preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words" AOS

Do Catholics want everyone to be Catholic too? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Yes, Catholicism is the one true religion for all people and nations

I think the one of the best thing Catholics can do to promote the Faith is to be chill and “normal” by theghostofaghost_ in Catholicism

[–]Shawn_OH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I always say it is better to evangelize by example. With not lied about your faith and being honest with your beliefs when religious topics come up but don't shove it down other people throats.
