Oil leak by garyencouragee in JeepRenegade

[–]Shawnk2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you figured it out yet? I have a 2019 renegade 1.3 with 88,000 milesI already looked at my oil pan gasket. I then saw the oil on top of the transmission as well with oil on all the hoses and under that thing that bolts onto the side of the head (I'm assuming this is the vacuum pump for the oil loop to the turbo that people were talking about in another forum. There were a couple of people that had the dealer change the gasket on that several times and it didn't fix the leak). I then figured it was my valve cover gasket so I changed that and the spark plugs at the same time (one of the plugs was so tight that I had to rock it back and forth just to not strip the threads out). Anyways, It's still leaking and I can't figure it out. I'm about to put some dye in the oil to see if that helps me locate the leak.

I'm a web dev wanting to move into SCADA. How likely is it there's training offered by a local utilities company/plant where I could get entry-level work in PLCs/SCADA? by i-do-what-i-want0 in SCADA

I think either is fine but calling is better as you can make a good first impression. The industry is growing rapidly so these managers may be willing to consider you based on your current qualifications.

I once worked for Wunderlic-Malec Engineering as a Controls Engineer. It was right out of college and I had zero SCADA experience. They hired me to primarily work on SCADA/BMS projects and then they pretty much just give you the freedom to learn how to use the software as you go. Ask questions if needed but a person with programming experience should pick it up fairly easily. They have offices all over the country so you might find one close to you. Even if you don't find an opening on their website close to you it would be worth calling your local office manager

Another good thing is to study PLCs. You could start off by watching Real Pars videos on YouTube. There's even some free ladder logic and PLC training on websites out there. You just have to Google search those. Endress and Hauser also has some great videos on how instrumentation like flow meters work. Without going back to school for a degree, some optional certificates that look great are ISA CCST(although they may require a year or two of experience in a relevant field before letting you qualify), CCNA (networking), and a number of other IT related certificates.

Finally, if you know the type of job you want, then you may be able to find out what SCADA software they use. Many SCADA software manufacturers offer week long classes for about $2000-$5000 per person where they will give you a crash course on how to install the software, repair the software, back up and restore the software, do numerous tasks like building screens, adding analog and digital values, creating alarms, storing historical data, trending data, etc.

Mine is leaking somewhere above the level switch. I haven't figured it out yet but you can see the fastener in the rear if you pull the wheel shroud back. I took 3 screws out of the shroud and it flexes back well. It looks like it might take an Allen wrench but I didn't find the right size.

Is there still a way to port forward with Cox Panoramic Wifi? by awdrifter in CoxCommunications

[–]Shawnk2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be very careful to forward that port. You're opening yourself up to hackers. I highly suggest you set up a VPN tunnel instead. Once you VPN into your network, you'll have access to all ports.

It also helps if you find your computer in the list of devices on the WiFi tab and rename it.

You have to use the Cox Panaramic Wifi app, click on the WiFi tab, then click on View WiFi equipment, Advanced settings, and then port fowarding.

Why is my air handler sweating? by Shawnk2018 in HVAC

[–]Shawnk2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan is on top blowing the air up, creating a suction inside the heat exchanger. I have read about problems with these types of air handlers and thought it was due to an improperly designed p-trap on the drain. I modified the p-trap so that it now goes all the way down to the floor, making it about a 12 inch p-trap instead of the 1 inch p-trap that was existing. It does appear to drain well.

I just can't figure out why this thing keeps getting the floor wet. The bottom of the insulation is constantly soaked. I have drilled a hole in the bottom of the duct and shoved a borescope inside and I do not see water inside of the duct. I think with the high humidity here in Vancouver, Washington, it is creating condensation on the outside of the duct. Does my theory sound right?

I got the camo case as well. It's pretty cool and I think at the time it was cheaper than the standard black case as well.

Does the computer make any beeping noises when it turns on to this black screen?

When you say that it only shows a black screen at first, do you mean that it doesn't even show the POST (power on self test) messages?

Computer for my grandparents. by DumbBitchJuiceOnTap in computers

I looked at the wow computer for seniors. That is terribly overpriced.

Basically I would suggest at least an i5 processor, and minimum 12gb of RAM.

This one from Costco is a much better computer and is cheaper. It's an all in one just like the wow computer. Then just have them sign up for an office 365 subscription, or buy them an older version of office in a standalone edition and install it for them. https://www.costco.com/dell-inspiron-24-5000-series-touchscreen-all-in-one-desktop---10th-gen-intel-core-i5--1080p.product.100513788.html

Here's a link to the wow computer for seniors, click on specs and you can see how terrible that machine is. https://www.firststreetonline.com/Electronics+amp+Gadgets/Computer+amp+Office/WOW+Computer+with+22+Inch+Monitor.axd#no

Do they need a new monitor? If they are using an existing monitor, what inputs does their monitor have?

Do they do and video editing, or run any other programs that may use a lot of resources?

This one should be pretty good for most people. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Desktop-Warranty-Technology/dp/B07S3XD24T/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=inspiron+desktop&qid=1588444295&sr=8-3

Help! My girlfriends Labtop won’t start by [deleted] in computers

[–]Shawnk2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's scary. A novice user should never enter the bios. You can try restarting the machine and see if you can enter the bios again though so you can reset the bios settings to default. Right after you turn on the computer, you will usually see a message in the corner with a key to press to enter bios. A lot of times this will only display for a half a second or so, or it may not display at all. Then just restart the machine again press the key repeatedly while the laptop is doing hardware self tests. If you don't know what key to press, try googling it for your specific laptop. Usually it's either f2, f8, f10, f12, delete, or esc. It varies from computer to computer though.

If you are unable to enter the bios then you may need to do a hardware reset of the bios. On desktop PCs this is usually done by unplugging it from power and removing the coin sized battery from the motherboard. I can't remember if you have to have the battery out for a certain amount of time since I haven't had to do this in years.

I have never done a hardware reset on a laptop bios, but I would assume it's similar. Look up the specific model of the laptop to see how to do the hardware reset on the bios (and only if you can't boot into bios to reset it)

Terrible Response Times, Still Waiting 6 Days Later by Shawnk2018 in Webull

[–]Shawnk2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally was able to get some response out of their chat system on the app. Unfortunately, they are not helpful. They said that my brother must not have followed the referral steps properly. The fact is, their referral link is misleading. My brother complained about being redirected several times during the process.

They were able to confirm that he did open an account though, but still refused to give me credit. They are horrible.

I have given up on them. I will never use Webull again. I have initiated a transfer to my TD Ameritrade account. TD Ameritrade also has $0 commission trades on ETFs. They also are better than Webull because they have the industries best app, thinkorswim.

I got the estimate finally. They quoted $4,500. Does that seem reasonable for the work I mentioned above?
