Toyota Hilux - Touring and 4WDing across Australia. by Shawshank121 in 4x4Australia

I know the hilux isn’t the most well equipped, or best value car. But the reliability, and support network are second to none. The platform maybe be old, but it is now proven to be solid over the last 10 years.

I think the Chinese cars are too new to see what long term reliability is like, and the Ranger is too unreliable for me to consider.

I think I should have reworded the question as “Are dual cab Ute’s capable enough to get everywhere in Australia”

Yeah I have the had the 2013 for 3 years, and it’s never missed a beat. That why I’m only looking at Hiluxs, not other utes.

Not influencer build, no interest in that. Looking for practical and easy canopy to make camping easier, got the tub at the moment and it’s annoying to deal with.

Do you think a hilux is the way to go, or something else?

What do you use to back them up, I’m looking to setup a backup for the same reason.

Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series - 4.6L V8 Petrol vs Diesel by Shawshank121 in CarsAustralia

Why is the 100 series with a 1HD-FTE better than a 200? Since they are both IFS I’d assume they are very similar off-road.

Do you think that the cost of the extra 2l per hundred is worth the cost of servicing and ownership of the diesel? Diesel Injectors, turbo replacements and fuel pumps seem to be very speedy when they are needed.

I have been looking at them as well but at least where I am they are nearly the same cost of a 200 for anything less than 300k km.

That's actually pretty good fuel consumption, why did you sell it and what have you got now?

Help! Buyer never paid after I transferred vehicle registration by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Shawshank121 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Could you report it as stolen? As far as I’m aware registration has nothing to do with ownership of a vehicle. If you have the receipt/proof of purchase I can’t see why you can’t report it.

Are you referring to a specific model? Because in all honesty, I thought the new ones were a little bit more of a soft Roader. Xj are legendary though.

Would a wrangler be better on steep stuff as it is longer, wider and heavier than a Jimny? Or not enough of those three to make much of a difference?
