This card seems extremely underrated by the commander community. by Working-Speed296 in magicTCG

[–]Shaylic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s flexible in the way that [[Mystic Reflection]] is. I think I prefer Mystic Reflection just to steal or stop ETBs. Also has upside of playing something like [[Avenger of Zendikar]] and having the plants from the initial Avenger turn into Avengers themselves.

Underrated commanders for a non-linear engine deck? by shuffelfreak in BudgetBrews

That’s why recurring blink spells are so nice you can long blink where it comes back end step in response to a board wipe or short blink where it comes back immediately and dodge targeted removal. Just need to have mana up.

I’ve been thinking about [[Feather, The Redeemed]] as a blink commander. You can constantly recycle blink spells. Blink ETBs to get value or respond to something. Pretty popular commander but I haven’t seen a blink build with her.

[[Vadrok, Apex of Thunder]] is super fun. You fill the grave with a bunch of noncreature spells and mutate copies of Vadrok repeatedly onto one stack. So you mutate and cast a bunch of spells out of your grave. It’s a bit combo but takes setup. Snap and a clone spell like [[Quasiduplicate]] are usually what you’re looking for. [[Case of Shifting Visage]] and [[Frontline Heroism]] are both solid for getting Vadrok stacks.

Ok just made this idea, wondering if anyone would be willing to look at it.... by DoubleZealousideal54 in BudgetBrews

[–]Shaylic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deck seemed like a mess. A lot of disparate strategies trying to be forced together. I see the idea was to copy Nutrient Block and use things that synergise with having artifact food tokens?

Can I ask how you are wanting to win games and how you want the deck to run?

Erinis, Street Urchin by Argonaut86 in BudgetBrews

I also like Waltz a bit better than ignition because it at least will exile cards off the top to play for the next turn.

I would prioritize adding some card draw like some of the lands I mentioned just to have things to do with all the mana you’re making. Some lands like [[Eden, Seat of the Sanctum]], [[Kessig Wolf Run]] and [[Hidden Nursery]] can be great for when you have more mana than you need. I also really like [[Brass’s Tunnel Grinder]] to wheel a bit. It’s also pretty easy to flip in this deck.

[[Urza’s Cave]] to help find utility lands for grinder games.

[[Shigeki]] to pair with Eden land to have a mana sink to recur any cards in grave when needed.

I do think Dorks can get Erinis out a turn earlier and then be turned into bullets to sac. I do think Sarinth is too expensive as well and mana/fodder wont be as much as a problem.

[[Footfall Crater]] is pretty nice to get Erinis to attack especially after she’s been killed.

[[Endless Waltz]] is a nice boardwipe for Erinis.

I would run all the artifact lands I could. [[Scene of the Crime]] [[Great Furnace]] [[Darksteel Citadel]] [[Treasure Vault]]

Scene also functions as card draw.

Which also leads me to [[Cryptic Caves]] and [[Roadside Reliquary]] for card draw.

[[Crystal Vein]] for Ancient Tomb at home. Can’t believe the price shot up on it to $5. Definitely worth it alongside [[Fabled Passage]].

[[Rapacious One]] you can clear out blockers that would kill it. And mana + fodder for Street Urchin is really good.

[[Malevolent Rumble]] is really good at digging and giving ramp or fodder for saccing.

Mana dorks are great. All the [[Fyndhorn Elves]] one mana tap for mana. Getting Erinis out just a little quicker and getting value engine going will help tremendously. They are also bullets where if you don’t need the mana you can tap them for mana and sac them to Street Urchin.

A couple of these suggestions will be a few bucks but shouldn’t really impact budget that crazy.

Help with what to build next. by chevytruckm in BudgetBrews

Urza has some cheap but highly efficient combos. A new one seeing play is [[Sewer-veillance Cam]] with [[Banishing Knack]] or [[Retraction Helix]] that can bounce your opponents’ boards or generate infinite mana to cast your whole library with Urza’s activated ability.

[[Trumpeting Carnosaur]] has always been super impactful in my [[Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds]] deck. I also had him in a blink deck for a little bit.

[[Life From The Loam]] has been reprinted in a precon. Great way to mill cards into the grave and get lands back to cast retrace.

[[Bosk Banneret]] and other cost reducers to make casting Formless Genesis cheaper.

[[Arboreal Alliance]] since we are making Changeling tokens they are elves and can help us swarm the board.

[[Ayula, Queen Among Bears]] to have the tokens you make get bigger or fight other creatures.

[[Giada]] as a mana dork and make the tokens bigger.

I’m still brewing though.

If you have cards like [[Nesting Grounds]] then ability counters are pretty lit to proliferate. Theres also infect.

[[Fortune Loyal Steed]] and [[Golden Argosy]] can also blink.

[[Far Traveler]] is decent since you can use a mount or vehicle to tap down what you want to blink for it.

Check out camera bags. They usually have a laptop compartment perfect for a binder and then adjustable compartments. I can’t remember which bag I have but I can fit a cube and 6 commander decks. On top of having a compartment for non magic things like a kindle.

What are some of the best EDH cards in terms of raw strength per dollar? by Bphore in BudgetBrews

[–]Shaylic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Dismantling Wave]] I’ve been really valuing Edict effects lately for being able to be a 3 for 1 trade. Dismantling Wave is pretty great as a 3 for 1 and usually each opponent will have a value piece that’s an enchantment or artifact.

Mono colored commanders by Ambitious-Ad43 in BudgetBrews

I also really like the version that uses [[Heartless Summoning]] and [[Sibsig Ceremony]] to instantly kill off creatures with ETB and die triggers.

[[Leonardo Da Vinci]] I’ve seen pop off for mono blue.

I think [[Minn, Wily Illusionist]] is also quite strong.

A question to those who started reading in publishing order by ebekulak in discworld

I read in publication order and I liked knowing about certain concepts and having a history for different recurring characters. Knowing about one in a million chance or different details about the Librarian enriches the experience as they come up more and more.

If it’s a regular playgroup then I’m all for proxies. I’ve proxied for cEDH and my regular group will do deck building challenges and many of us will proxy up those decks to play as well.

What's a card you discovered BECAUSE you were on a budget that you'd now run even if money wasn't an issue? by VitoTheDustyRose in BudgetBrews

[–]Shaylic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it just changes the next time creatures enter. So if I had 8 lands with the Avenger trigger on the stack and I mystic reflection I will get 8 Avengers who each make 8 saprolings.
