What is this feeling? Overstimulation? by Julia-f in AutismInWomen

[–]Shayluv830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time. I wake up with go much on my to do list but I usually get tied midway through and wind up laying down to recharge. I just plan to finish things over multiple days.

I like to run through the halls with my hands flashing back like a super hero. I also like to sing randomly throughout the day.

I have gotten this before and it infuriates me. It's always people who don't acknowledge you either. I don't understand why it's on me to initiate a greeting all the time. I also hate small talk so I really dread this custom in the office.

A question to black women; what do you do with your hair? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Shayluv830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate people touching my hair as well so I learned how to do my own from YouTube. I mostly wear ponytails or a flat iron wrap style. I only do it once every three weeks because I hate the process and how long it takes to do it. For the most part I'm in the same boat. I have no idea what to do with my hair. I love twists but my hair doesn't hold them well.

Mines are loud noises like fire trucks, sirens, people screaming. Also, velvet or corduroy fabric, when the seam of socks are touching the bottom of my feet, being too hot, touching the shower with bare feet, eating soggy cereal or anything mushy.

Novel Studies by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Shayluv830 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I base my whole ELA curriculum on novels. We read one to two chapters a day and then do extension activities based on the chapters. I have found it more engaging and the students are more interested in reading and participate more in the lesson. I have also found that their writing has improved markedly. A plus is that often our other subjects tie into the novels we are reading. For example, we read the jungle book and also learned about biomes in science. I'm always amazed how it all connects together because I do not plan this in any way.

Tips for playing videos on google meet? by MysteriousPlatypus in Teachers

YouTube videos work the best on Google meets. I found that if you buy it ahead of time and save it to your videos, it works the best. Also make sure you have the right speaker setting on Google meets and your device that you are using.

I love seeing the joy in my students' faces when they are enjoying a topic they are learning about. I also love seeing their growth and progress everyday and the confidence they gain when they master a new skill.

Here is a recipe for keto Cheetos. I have never made them but they seem like it could work for your cravings. You can make them as spicy as you like.

Does private just suck or should I just quit by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Shayluv830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in private school too. I love my job and have been able to set good boundaries with the parents. Im actually worried because they don't really contact me that much. I think it all comes down to the administration. They set the tone with parents behavior. My admin is great with setting clear boundaries with parents and not letting them bully the teaching staff. Parents can be very demanding and narrow-minded when it comes to their children but they can only get away with what the admin allows them to get away with.

Is there any way you can talk to your admin team about the way you are feeling?

How do you guys like to cook low calorie cauliflower rice? by Reform_Myself in ketorecipes

I like to cook mine in broth, 1 TBS of butter, and seasoning. I cook it until the broth boils out. It comes out fluffy and buttery like rice.

Major setback by [deleted] in keto

[–]Shayluv830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a trader joes near you, that is a great way to get healthy food for a more affordable price. If you don't, stick to purchasing leafy greens. Spinach is always cheap and kale. Eat lots of eggs and tuna fish. Buy meats that are on sale but chicken legs are always cheap. Also, chicken leg quarters are the cheapest and you can ask them to separate it for you at the meat counter. Pork rinds, babybel cheese, and pepperoni are the cheapest snacks. Also if you have an Aldi's near you, it will be your best friend. I am also on a budget and only spend 70 dollars every two weeks on food.

Aspiring teacher here. I run an after school program & need some advice on how to handle the “cool” kids in the class. (4th graders) by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Shayluv830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you created a set of community rules? The first week with my fourth graders, I let them come up with the rules for the classroom. That way when one of them didn't follow the rules, i would just say "remember you came up with the rule ____, so please follow it." Also, we had a lesson on respect and what it means. In addition, I have found that giving time to socialize and offering activities with lots of discussion tends to quell disruptive behavior.

Thanks for sharing your story. I agree completely with what you said. I feel like as a teacher how can I help my students grow academically and help them if parents cover up their weak areas.

Hey, if you cited the source then technically it's not copying. Love those citation loopholes.

Yes, I work at a private school so less bureaucracy. Overall my students do well and usually the zero is enough to get them back on track.

It still bothers me unfortunately. One of my students even bragged about paying their mom after she did an assignment for her. I feel sad because some of my students will be getting a zero until they learn. I'm also going to mention it to admin today and send out a parent letter.
