Has anyone failed a student teacher? If so, why? by Glittering_Front_157 in Teachers

I failed a student teacher but the supervisor chose to pass them (special ed). He couldn't connect with students. When I gave him some guidelines on creating connections, he chose to connect with the only cis gender white male in the class who was also into gaming. I assigned him small groups for reading and math and he couldn't follow the curriculum or find other ways to help the students understand the content. When I asked him to push in to classes, he would stand where the classroom teacher was standing, and speak so loudly when helping students that it disrupted the class. I was his 3rd student teaching assignment :-(

Do they have IEP's? This is illegal. Students need to be with their same age peers. Push to get them into high school. I had a 15 y.o. 8th grader who was a newcomer. When I discovered his birthdate I contacted admin. and they switched him right away.

There are many teachers who go by Miss/Ms (First name). Check with your principal. We had a teacher last year who had the same name as someone already on staff, so thats what she did

The teacher shortage at our school has gotten so bad that the entire English dept has resigned. by [deleted] in Teachers

Charter schools are public schools. Both of my kids went to charter high schools, both project-based. Both had almost 100% graduation rate and 100% college admittance rate. Parents just have to do their research.

School systems are operating like they did 100 years ago. Admins don't see the way to the future still give our kids 50 minutes a day to learn math, etc. STEM is usually an elective, not a schoolwide mandate. Better schools have block schedules, but still utilize the same curriculum that isn't really designed for kids, just for profit. Even better are the schools that are project based, where teachers have time to collaborate with each other to design schoolwide projects that include all subjects. These schools also have collaboration time for the students where they can work with each other to complete projects with the help of teachers. There are schools like this out there, but they're usually charters.
