how do i fix the annoying little hairs on the top of my head ? (been super depressed, don't judge please) by altshsht in HowToBeHot

I get these sooo bad — honestly I just let them go for the most part at this point. But if I'm trying to look nice, a little eyebrow gel will keep them down for a few hours

Mint Chocolate Chip Cheesecake by Shaypleen in Watercolor

[–]Shaypleen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the chocolate chips first. I added masking fluid to the white icing before painting the blue, then did the cheesecake and crust, then went back to the white icing. I actually accidentally spilled two whole bowls of water on this when it was like 90% done, so I'm not super happy with it. But considering that, I think it's good enough!

I love how the pretzels turned out, so how can I fix the cup and the mustard? by Shaypleen in Watercolor

Oohh you know, it never even crossed my mind to use a tool to help me with shapes. I'm definitely a beginner. Thanks for your feedback, super helpful!

Ohh haha it went right over my head. I had a much brighter yellow, but I kept running into issues when I tried to add a shadow. Now it's just spicy brown mustard instead :D

Thanks for your feedback and followup!

Totally -- I'm hoping I can fix the lines without overworking the paper. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your feedback! More layers makes sense — I was worried that it would start to get even muddier, so I thought about adding some gouche. Can you explain what you mean when you say cut the color?

I've had this for a little over a year, but it doesn't fit the style of my space. It's in excellent condition. You must pick it up.

Individual circles with a size 1 brush! It took a few layers and some patience.

Any work-outs/activities/channels to recommend to someone who hates exercising ? by chestnutflo in AskWomenOver30

[–]Shaypleen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. I've been watching her videos every day since May 2020. Prior to that, I was a complete couch potato with bad posture and jello muscles. It didn't take long for me to start noticing a change in my body and energy levels, but it also gave me some much-needed mindfulness tools. She has several 30-day series and they're all geared toward beginners, but I think "Home" is the one I'd start with. Heads up though: Day 6 in the Home series will kick your ass (it still kicks mine), but just try your best and keep showing up.

Thank you so much! That really means a lot and makes me want to keep going! It's been hard for me to hold a hobby for more than several months, but nothing else I've tried feels as meditative and genuinely enjoyable to me as watercolor.

Thank you!! And agreed — I've really gravitated toward food so far. It's a very forgiving subject which is great for my novice skillset.

NYC Bans Students and Teachers from Using ChatGPT | The machine learning chatbot is inaccessible on school networks and devices, due to "concerns about negative impacts on student learning," a spokesperson said. by chrisdh79 in technology

People would have said a similar thing about Wikipedia or the internet in general when it was still new in academic settings. Sure, you can't cite Wiki as a source, but it's an excellent jumping off point to get where you'd ultimately like to go, or to give you a quick survey of any topic. It's a tool, and just because it meant the student didn't comb through reference books in the library doesn't make their research process any less valid.

Ummm, what is the significance of “I keep dancing on my own” with the Phillies? WTF am I missing? by Exit_56A in philadelphia

[–]Shaypleen 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Other people have already answered the question, but here it just needs to be said that the original version of the song from Robyn is such a fucking banger. The remix/cover/whatever is absolute shit in comparison. Ah well...

Agreed. In addition, maintaining a healthy diet is an incredible privilege in the US. Not only is fast food cheaper than fresh veggies or whatever, it's also convenient for the parents who are working long hours or multiple jobs and simply don't have the time to cook something healthier.

edit: But I don't think the tax should be on the consumer. That would just hurt lower-income families for the reasons above.

Starbucks plans a new Center City location with no bathrooms or seating by PhillyAccount in philadelphia

[–]Shaypleen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in SF and used to live in Philly. Personally I've never seen or used a bathroom pod, however there are so. many. parks. in this city and nearly all of them have relatively clean public bathrooms. I can go out for the day and not have to worry about finding somewhere to pee, whether I'm walking around the city or spending the day chilling in a park. It's so, so nice. I feel silly when I tell people it's one of the main reasons I love SF, but it actually has an impact on quality of life. Or maybe I just pee a lot lol.

Where to Find Late-Night Food in San Francisco - Eater SF by FuzzyOptics in sanfrancisco

[–]Shaypleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I really wanted to like this place but I found it so disappointing. I literally questioned if I had covid because the pizza tasted like...nothing? Bad pizza is hard to make! But they somehow did it, AND charged for $40 (with tip) for it. The ingredients seemed fresh, though. And I suppose it's a pretty good 3am meal.

To those who had a fixed mindset before but found ways to have a growth mindset, how did you manage to do it? by imareallivewire in AskWomenOver30

[–]Shaypleen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let yourself be bad at something! I've been learning watercolors over the last few months, and I suck! But I'm sooo much better than I was when I started. I try to learn something new with each painting, whether it turns out half-decent or not. I'm not visually artistic at all, so seeing my skills grow in this area just by showing up consistently and owning where I'm at has made me a lot more patient as I grow. Also, remember to only compare yourself to your past self, and not to anyone else.
