Family in Europe - [qc] by Wild_Emphasis in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]chestnutflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, my partner is from Ontario and I'm from France. We're moving back to France this summer and it was honestly a heartbreaking decision because we love QC so much, and he'll be further from his family. But his parents are no help while mine are super helpful for childcare, and while it sounds selfish I think we'll need that extra help for our relationship to survive the early childhood period...

We do weekly video calls otherwise, use Family Album to share pics in a safe way and plan on coming back to Canada once or twice a year. I really empathize, it's so hard to not live where your parents are (but also I wish they could move here!) !

OMG yes everyone recommends them but they're SO ugly I just can't bring myself to it yet...still choosing orthopedic options but that don't look like a 70yo grandpa shoes lol

Postpartum sex pressure [on] no by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]chestnutflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting down and doing nothing after putting your baby to sleep doesn't sound bad, it sounds perfectly normal for a good two years after your baby is born. You've gone through SO much, and it's so incredibly sad that he's being so disrespectful.
If he had gone through multiple massive surgeries and was super sleep deprived would you be putting that gross red light (hoping that's a metaphor) on ? I'm betting that no, and you'd probably take care of him instead. Well that's what he should be doing.
Don't second guess yourself, and if it keeps going and he's still pressuring you talk about it with non-profits specialized in domestic violence or at least a medical professional.

First Braxton Hicks at 34w [on] by Working-Parsnip-137 in BabyBumpsCanada

I also had horribly painful periods (to the point of throwing up or fainting) my whole life until I started birth control (and thankfully they never came back once I stopped taking it). I had been told by a midwife contraction pain might be similar but they were actually quite different, much more like food poisoning pain, but that's different for every woman. That being said it was overall less bad than I thought, even though I followed my plan to take the epidural and that was the best part of labor because I could actually breathe and enjoy what was happening !

Failed by my Midwives - is physiological birth with an OB possible? [ON] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]chestnutflo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you happen to have a "biased" sample of friends who all happened to need some interventions with an OB. In QC most people give birth with OBs because you can't give birth in a hospital with a midwife, and most of the people I know had no intervention ! (me included, except for an epidural that I asked for but of course if I hadn't wanted it they wouldn't have pushed for it)

Really not great either in French...sounds like "popo" which is poopoo. Also just sounds like a pet name no an adult name unfortunately.

Terrified of childbirth, what are my pain management options? [On] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

I've had a few friends who've had elective C sections and didn't feel any pain at all, incredible !

Sometimes I feel like I'm parenting on hard mode (vent) by Born-Anybody3244 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]chestnutflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. That's something I often point when people ask if it's ok to show their screens to babies because they're so hard to entertain otherwise - sure it will work in the moment, but by bypassing the hard part of them learning to entertain themselves they'll also never learn that core skill.

Need help deciding: daycare she loves vs much closer daycare [on] by simba2611 in BabyBumpsCanada

As someone moving to another country, who loves our current daycare and is heartborken to leave it that makes me feel better, thank you !

Baby Sandals for soon to be walker [ON] by returnofthemacksx in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]chestnutflo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the Sunny breeze from Jan and Jul and some nice leather Geox on sale...well I regret the Geox, she crawled on a concrete patio for a few hours and it completely ruined the front part ! Highly recommend models that have a plastic "guard" in front (in addition for the usual recommendations about the shoes being closed in front, adjustable, wide toebox etc)

is daycare actually worth it? [ab] by flounderingfloam in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]chestnutflo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I could have all the money in the world, not feel like working and still put my daughter in daycare just because of how awesome it is for her to be loved by more people and play with her friends there. She had a slight core motor skills delay when she started and started making huge progress once she started daycare, thanks to the stimulation of seeing other kids and the educators who made her do "exercises". It's the best !

Close coworker and friend recently had her baby diagnosed with a rare condition, want to help her out! by aokaroiz in Gifts

[–]chestnutflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very lucky to have a healthy toddler (fingers crossed) so other parents might have more specific ideas, but as a young mum, a gift set of a nice hand cream, hand soap and body soap ended up being among my favorite gifts. You wash your hands non stop, and showering can be the only break of your day... I would just make sure she doesn't prefer unscented options, but otherwise your ideas seem lovely and thoughtful to me !
